Chapter 298
Chapter 298
The old lady died suddenly of illness. She had no medicine on her, only her family who knew nothing about anything and an empty wallet.
This inevitably makes people imagine things, and the people's lives are just the same day after day, and it is rare to see something exciting and surprising. People just want to make it more interesting, so they start to make wild guesses.
If you say that the family is unfilial, I'm afraid the old lady must have a hard time at home.
Some people say that her family members are harming her and are deliberately not allowing her to see a doctor or take medicine.
It is said that someone stole money, and the first child who discovered the dead person might be the thief.
There are different opinions and no consensus.
But they all have their own reasons. The Buddha that the old lady worships only saves the souls of the dead, not the living. Young people come here to pray for their deceased relatives, and people of her age come here to pray for a good death and to be liberated as soon as possible.
Would someone who lives a good life ask for such a thing?
It's obvious that there is a problem.
Moreover, if a person's illness cannot be seen in one or two days, and family members still don't notice it after a long time, how careless they must be.
They even asked a sick person to help them grind the mill. Is this something a human being can do?
Even if they are stupid and didn't notice, they still ask such an old man with white hair to work? Everyone accompanies him when he goes out. Is he really so busy that there is no one else to do it?
This doesn't sound right.
Let’s talk about money. It would cost at least two or three cents to take a bullock cart back and forth. I spent it on the way here, so where is the money for the way back?
What if she didn't spend the money and saved it up over a long period of time? There must be a few coins in it. How could a thief not be tempted when he saw it?
Suspicious glances were cast towards the child.
This is really not a very likable girl. She is sharp-tongued and just stood aside to watch the chaos. She didn't say what she knew. She is not a kind person. She doesn't look like a blessed person. Her clothes are nice, but who knows if they are stolen? The clothes are obviously altered, and the sleeves are folded and sewn.
The clothes the child wore were borrowed from Haitao. She was going to see the master, and she forgot to buy cloth when she went out last time. This time she thought about it and brought money with her. It was obvious that some changes would be made to the clothes, as she had never been good at sewing since she was a child.
so what?
Can she steal clothes like this just because she wants to?
And body search?
"There's no name or surname on the silver. If that's what you're saying, then as long as I have money on me I'm not innocent. Why bother searching? Wouldn't it be better to just arrest me directly?"
The child was very annoyed and spoke in a bad tone.
So they started to jeer again, "She admitted it!"
"If you don't feel guilty, why are you afraid of being searched?"
"It doesn't necessarily mean she was the one. What if there was no such money at all? The person is dead. Whether the money was given or not is entirely up to them to say."
You can really guess each one of them.
If they really listen to these people, neither the child nor the couple will be well off.
Fortunately, the constable is quite reliable. You can ask the driver about the ox cart and find out. You can ask the neighbors whether the old lady is doing well at home.
No one knows whether there is money in an empty purse.
The coroner asked the old woman's son and daughter-in-law for some money, put it under his nose and sniffed it, then picked up the money on the child and sniffed it, and said with certainty, "She didn't take it. It doesn't smell like beans."
Money has no name or surname, but it is always kept close to the body, so it is inevitable that it will be contaminated with the owner's scent.
The old lady's son and daughter-in-law farm and make tofu all year round, so the money has a smell of earth and beans.
Children don't do these things. They just serve tea and water every day, so the copper coins are mostly filled with the scent of soap balls... and a faint smell of blood.
This made the coroner look at her twice more, but he didn't say anything.
Whether she said it or not, the children would be unhappy. No one would be happy if they were searched and their money was taken away for no reason. They would grab the token and silver used to enter and leave.
The eldest child was dissatisfied and said:
"Give it back to me. I can leave now that it's none of my business, right?"
"Not yet. I'd like you to tell me if there was anything that happened when you met the deceased that could have triggered your heart palpitations."
"What could it be? I went into the temple to worship Buddha, but I didn't recognize her, so I wanted to ask someone. I saw that she was struggling to get up from her cushion, so I helped her up. She told me the story of Miaowang Tathagata and some other words I didn't quite understand. Then she turned and left. When I came out, I saw her sitting there leaning against a pillar, with the corner of her clothes in the dirt..."
There's not much to say about what happened next. The constable asked the child to repeat what the old lady said...
The children could hardly remember what was said and could only give a rough idea of it, but those two sentences, "To live a healthy and peaceful life is a blessing," made these people suspicious again, but this time they were all directed at the old lady's son and daughter-in-law.
The child watched coldly, feeling only irony.
In the pure land of Buddhism, a group of good men and women said words that were more terrifying than each other.
The abbots just twirled their Buddhist beads, closed their eyes, and chanted something silently, occasionally letting out a few sounds that sounded like the Sutra of Rebirth.
Remove all karmic obstacles and be reborn in the Pure Land...
"She doesn't want this."
The child gently tugged at the abbot's sleeve and whispered in the chaos,
"She doesn't seek an afterlife, only liberation in this life. You must make this clear to the Buddha when you recite the sutra."
The child's mood was very complicated, but he didn't know how to express it.
The abbot seemed to understand her very well and nodded, saying, "My Buddha understands, and I will remind Him as well."
The moment she opened her mouth, truth or falsehood no longer mattered, and the child felt a great relief.
Most of the impatience, indignation and sighs in my heart were soothed. Even though I knew that the old lady had not turned into a ghost, I still thought in my heart that perhaps she had escaped the suffering of reincarnation and gone to another place.
It’s like the paradise in the soul flag, and Grandma Moon leads people to the moon.
Miaowang Tathagata can also take people to a very good place, which may be the legendary Western Paradise, where people can see Bodhisattvas, Buddhas and many gods.
It’s good to think this way. Those who believe in gods and Buddhas do so for this reason, for the warm feeling in their hearts. It seems that as long as they think that they will go to a good place after death, they will have the strength to live.
Because everyone says that you should live well and die naturally to avoid going to hell.
The child was daydreaming.
The old lady's body was taken away by the people from the yamen and will be temporarily placed in the charity cemetery. She can only go home after all the necessary investigations have been completed.
The child was able to leave, and the constable did not suspect her.
If they knew that the child was an evil cultivator, they probably wouldn't be so willing to let him go. In short, nothing happened.
When I went there again, Zhiyuan told me that the government had already reached a conclusion on the matter. Even if it was an accident, the old lady had already been buried. Her son and daughter-in-law even invited nuns from Kanhua Temple to perform rituals, and the burial was quite grand.
The matter of the purse was also clarified. There was an old sister who was not doing well. Every time the old lady came in a ox cart, she would buy cakes and steamed buns to visit her, and then walk back when she left.
She hadn't told her family about this, fearing the children would be unhappy. The driver and passengers also didn't say anything about it, so they never knew about it and it led to misunderstandings.
Now that everything is clear, they seem even more sad.
Zhiyuan said, "No one was happy for her. Everyone was crying so sadly."
