Chapter 303 Project 3 (8)
Chapter 303 Project 3 (8)
The spider lifted him into the air with its front legs, and he struggled desperately. He tried to kick it with his feet, but his legs met its pincers and he felt a sharp pain.
He heard Cedric yell "Stupefy!" too, but his spell had no effect either—the spider opened its pincers again, and Harry raised his wand and yelled "Expelliarmus!"
It worked—the Disarming Charm made the spider release him—but it meant Harry fell three meters. His already injured leg couldn't bear the weight of his body, and he collapsed to the ground.
Without a second thought, he aimed his wand at the spider's underbelly, just as he had with the Skrewt, and yelled "Stupefy!"
Cedric shouted the same spell.
The two spells combined had an effect that neither spell had: the spider toppled over, crushing a hedge and sprawling its long, hairy legs across the ground.
Lamia had already hidden to the side and took this opportunity to throw a purple fireball at the spider. Obviously, this fireball was much more powerful and the spider was quickly burned to ashes.
"Lamia! I know it's you!" Harry shouted. "Come out, I won't hurt you."
"Neither can I." Cedric got up from the ground.
The immense pain made Harry look down at his legs. Blood was flowing profusely, and there was some sticky substance on his torn robe, which was secreted from the spider's claws.
He tried to stand up, but his legs were shaking so badly that he couldn't support his body weight. He leaned against the hedge, breathing heavily, looking around, waiting for the familiar figure.
Lamia came out from behind the tree. She had thought they would ignore her until the project was over, but she didn't expect to meet them so soon.
"Listen to me, Harry and Cedric, I don't want the trophy at all. Do whatever you want, I won't interfere." Lamia said.
Cedric now stood only a foot away from the Triwizard Cup, the trophy gleaming behind him.
"Why? Lamia, we should be fair," Harry said.
Cedric nodded as well, retreating to the same position as the other two.
"No." Lamia shook her head. She had known that this scene would happen, and that was why she didn't want to show up.
"You take it then," Harry gasped to Cedric, "come on, you're already here."
Cedric stood there looking at Harry, then back at the trophy, and in the golden light of the trophy, Lamia could see the look of longing on Cedric's face.
Cedric looked back at Harry, who was trying to stand up by holding onto the hedge, and Cedric took a deep breath.
"Take it. You deserve to win. You saved my life twice."
"That's not the rule," said Harry.
He was annoyed, his legs hurt so much, and now his whole body was aching from trying to get rid of the spider, and after all that effort, he had lost to Cedric.
"Whoever gets there first scores. You got there first. I'm serious. I can't run a race with these legs of mine."
Cedric took a few steps towards the unconscious Spider, moving further away from the trophy.
He shook his head.
"Do not."
"Stop showing off," Harry said impatiently, "Get it quickly so we can get out."
Cedric saw Harry clutching the hedge to steady himself.
"You told me there was a dragon," Cedric said. "If you hadn't warned me in advance, I would have been eliminated from the first task."
"I got the help first," said Harry irritably, trying to wipe the blood from his leg on his robe. "You told me the secret of the golden egg - we're even."
"Someone helped me first," said Cedric.
"We're finally even." Harry cautiously tested his injured leg. As soon as he put weight on it, the leg began to tremble violently. He had twisted his ankle when the spider threw him down.
"Stop talking and take it. This is so stupid." Harry said impatiently.
But Cedric had already stepped over the tangle of spider legs and was standing next to Harry, who glared at him.
Cedric meant it.
He was giving up an honor that Hufflepuff House had not received in hundreds of years.
"I say, why don't you all come together? That would also be considered a victory for Hogwarts. After all, there are only three of us left here." Lamia couldn't bear it anymore.
"That's a good idea, but you have to come too, Lamia," said Harry.
"I agree, you are also a part of Hogwarts." Cedric looked at the absent-minded silver-haired girl.
"Whatever." Lamia spread her hands, and the three of them walked over together. She just wanted the project to be over quickly and hoped that Cedric would not be in any danger again.
Cedric grabbed Harry's arm and helped Harry limp towards the trophy.
After walking over, the three of them raised their hands above a flashing handle.
"Count to three, will you?" said Harry. "One—two—three—"
He and Cedric each grabbed a handle, and Lamia placed her hand on top of the trophy.
In an instant, Lamia felt a tug behind her navel, and her legs left the ground, but she couldn't loosen her grip on the Triwizard Cup. It dragged her forward amidst the whistling wind and swirling colors, but Lamia could feel Cedric and Harry beside her.
Finally, Lamia felt her feet hit the ground, she let go, and opened her eyes.
"What is this place?" Lamia said.
Cedric shook his head, stood up, and pulled Harry up with him, and they both looked around.
They were now well outside the grounds of Hogwarts, and they had evidently flown for miles—perhaps hundreds of miles, for even the hills surrounding the castle were out of sight.
They were standing in a dark, overgrown churchyard, and could see the dark outline of a chapel to the right behind a tall yew tree.
There is a hill on the left.
Lamia immediately spotted the exquisite old house on the hillside.
Cedric looked down at the Triwizard Cup, then up at Lamia and Harry.
"Has anyone ever told you that this trophy is a Portkey?" he asked.
"No," said Harry.
Lamia also shook her head. This place gave her a bad feeling, like someone familiar.
Lamia looked around the cemetery. It was eerie and silent.
Cedric: "Is this part of the game?"
"I don't know," said Harry, his voice a little nervous. "Draw your wand, don't you?"
"Okay," Cedric said.
They drew their wands and Harry glanced around, looking uneasy.
"Someone is coming." he said suddenly.
They squinted their eyes nervously and looked into the darkness. A figure was walking towards them step by step between the graves. Strangely, even Lamia couldn't see the man's face clearly, but from his gait and the posture of his arms, he seemed to be holding something.
He was short and wore a hooded cloak that obscured his face.
A few more steps closer - the distance between them kept shrinking, and now everyone could see that the person was holding something that looked like a baby - or was it just a bundle of clothes?
Harry lowered his wand a little and looked at Cedric, who gave him a questioning glance, and then they both turned their heads to stare at the approaching figure.
The man stopped before a towering marble tombstone, only six feet away from them.
Suddenly, Harry bent down, holding his forehead and looking very painful. Lamia had never seen him look like this before.
An unprecedented sense of unease swept over Lamia, and she instinctively looked at Cedric, who was standing there in a daze.
At this moment, Lamia heard someone far above her head say loudly and coldly: "Kill those who are in the way."
There was a whooshing sound, followed by a piercing shout that pierced the night air.
"Avada Kedavra!"
The green light illuminated everyone present.
