Chapter 111 The Female Supporting Character Who Regrets the Arranged Marriage (Part 8)
As soon as the carriage arrived at the Cang residence, Cang Huaiyu's voice rang out, "Qingyu?"
Qingyu lifted the curtain and greeted everyone with a radiant smile, "Big brother, father, mother~"
With the help of the servants, she stepped off the carriage and threw herself into her mother's arms, instinctively whining, "Mother~ I missed you so much~"
These past few days, Cang's mother has been unable to eat or drink. Such a marriage exchange is something that cannot be made public, and she is afraid that Zhou Hannan will treat Qingyu badly if he finds out. She has been paying close attention to the Zhou family's actions these past few days.
Fortunately, everything at the Zhou residence was normal, and those who inquired even said that Qingyu was doing very well.
Looking at him now, his eyes and brows are full of innocence, and he certainly didn't suffer.
"Mommy misses you too~"
Qingyu smiled and nuzzled against Cang's mother, her mind filled with thoughts of whether she could ask Cang's mother for a wedding gift later.
Although she has a lot of jewelry, she doesn't think she has too much!
After exchanging a few more jokes, the group strode back to the Cang residence.
Zhou Hannan wanted to stay with Qingyu, but Cang's father intended to talk to her and spend time with her to cultivate their relationship, so he couldn't refuse and had to go to the front yard with Cang's father.
However, a short while later, a servant came to report that Qi Zhiyu and Cang Huayu had returned.
Zhou Hannan paused slightly while drinking tea, and the next second he heard Cang's father instruct him to invite the person in.
He put down his teacup and looked towards the door. A moment later, he saw Qi Zhiyu with a stern face and Cang Huayu in silence. The two were standing one in front of the other, and they didn't look like a newlywed couple at all; they were not much different from strangers.
For some reason, Zhou Hannan felt a schadenfreude and laughed. When he faced Cang Huayu again, he no longer felt any pity. Instead, he was even more glad that he had not been able to marry her.
"Father-in-law." Qi Zhiyu greeted Cang's father politely with a bow. When he saw Zhou Hannan, who was calm and composed, he pursed his lips and nodded slightly. "Brother-in-law."
The two words were tinged with a hint of gritted teeth, which Zhou Hannan noticed. He nodded with obvious enjoyment, "Brother-in-law, what's wrong? You two seem a bit unhappy."
Qi Zhiyu's expression grew increasingly stiff. He forced a smile and said, "Of course, I can't compare to my brother-in-law, who's so happy to have taken over someone else's place."
"Magpie? I think this is a phoenix nest, but unfortunately you don't have that kind of luck." Zhou Hannan replied indifferently, his smile particularly irritating to Qi Zhiyu.
He wanted to say something more, but considering his father's already unpleasant expression, he didn't dare to continue.
This is Qingyu's father; he should be respected.
At this moment, Cang Huayu, who had been silent for a while, looked at her father and said softly, "Father, I won't disturb you here. I'll go for a walk in the backyard."
The Cang family mansion was where she grew up; there was no place she hadn't visited. She said this only to find Qingyu.
Father Cang nodded slightly, "Go."
Cang Huayu left without looking back.
The remaining three began an awkward conversation in the hall, eventually turning into a discussion between Cang's father and Zhou Hannan. Zhou Hannan had a good business sense, and Cang's father was a businessman himself. As the two of them started talking, Qi Zhiyu, who was standing to the side, was completely ignored.
When Cang's father finally realized what was happening, he felt quite guilty. "Zhiyu, I heard you're preparing for an exam. How are you doing?"
This was just idle chatter, and Qi Zhiyu replied with a smile, "Everything is fine, and I certainly won't let my father-in-law down!"
Father Cang laughed heartily and patted Qi Zhiyu on the shoulder, "I have high hopes for you."
Qi Zhiyu smiled nonchalantly, but when he caught Zhou Hannan's meaningful gaze out of the corner of his eye, a surge of anger rose in his heart, which he then forcibly suppressed.
Don't act impulsively; he hasn't passed the imperial examinations yet.
The Zhou family is not someone we can afford to offend for now.
"Alright, it's getting late. Someone, go and call the two young ladies back for dinner."
As soon as Father Cang finished speaking, Qi Zhiyu spoke up first, "No need, Father-in-law, I'll go find it myself!"
“I’ll go too.” Zhou Hannan stood up, straightened his sleeves, and said with a smile.
After thinking about it, Cang's father agreed, saying it would be a good opportunity to nurture the relationship between the two couples.
"Then let's go together!"
------------
Qingyu was led into her former courtyard by Cang's mother. As they walked, Cang's mother said, "I will always keep this courtyard for you. You can stay here whenever you want to go home."
Qingyu didn't care whether to keep or not, but she didn't object, only obediently nodding.
Cang Huaiyu was by his side. He seemed much more haggard and spoke less. His eyes were constantly watching Qingyu's expression. Seeing that she didn't speak, he asked with some concern, "Qingyu, did Zhou Hannan scold you?"
He worried all day on the day of the marriage exchange, and had even sharpened his knife in preparation. If Zhou Hannan disliked it or something else, he would take the knife and go to her door to bring Qingyu back.
Although things have been calm these past few days, he is still worried.
Qingyu was taken aback by the question, a look of confusion flashing in her big eyes, before she smiled and said, "What are you thinking, brother? I'm so beautiful, he must be blind to treat me badly!"
Cang's mother patted Qingyu's hand helplessly, "Your older brother is worried about you, but you're showing off."
Qingyu tilted her head back slightly, a smug smile on her lips, and said, "I didn't say anything wrong."
The group was amused by her adorable appearance, and their laughter continued.
It wasn't until Cang Huayu appeared that Cang's mother saw her coming from afar and subconsciously frowned, "Why is she so stern on such a fine day? Huayu is being a bit too inconsiderate."
Mother Cang never targeted these illegitimate daughters, nor did she interfere much. She let Father Cang discipline them however he pleased, never meddle.
Therefore, he didn't have much affection for his illegitimate daughters.
As soon as she finished speaking, Cang Huayu stepped into the room. When she saw Qingyu's figure, her expression turned to surprise and delight, and she smiled and moved closer to Qingyu.
"Qingyu, so you're here. How have you been these past few days? Have you been feeling unwell anywhere?"
Qingyu looked Canghuayu up and down, somewhat confused by her words, and replied impatiently with a pout, "Instead of asking me, you should look at yourself!"
Cang Huayu was taken aback, then casually smoothed her hair. "I'm fine, I've just been worried about you."
Upon hearing this, everyone present fell silent.
None of the three were outsiders; who wouldn't know that Cang Huayu had been targeting Qingyu for a long time? Why would they worry about Qingyu?
"Have you taken the wrong medicine?" Compared to the suspicion of Cang's mother and Cang Huaiyu, Qingyu spoke directly, and then nodded seriously, "Don't think that I will be grateful just because you gave up the marriage. You are not worthy of this marriage!"
Cang Huayu's face turned deathly pale, her smile vanished, and she lowered her head without speaking for a long time.
If it were someone else in this situation, they might feel sorry for her, but everyone present was biased towards Qingyu, and for a moment no one spoke.
Finally, Cang Huaiyu said after careful consideration, "Fifth sister, Qingyu is simple-minded, and given your relationship, you shouldn't be spending too much time together at home right now. You should go back soon."
Qingyu snorted coldly, not echoing her words, but agreeing with them nonetheless.
Even though she understood that her charm might have changed the female lead's mind, she still didn't want to communicate with her much.
What if this guy uses his female lead aura to try and steal her property?
They are the enemy!
The atmosphere here was a bit strange and awkward. After a while, the three men, father-in-law and son-in-law, who had been talking in the front hall, came over.
Seeing that the others were silent, Zhou Hannan was the first to come to Qingyu's side and asked softly, "Qingyu, are you tired?"
Qingyu looked at the three of them and asked, "Have you finished chatting?"
Zhou Hannan's eyes deepened, and he boldly reached out to touch Qingyu's forehead. It was smooth and slightly cool to the touch, and his hand trembled slightly. Meeting Qingyu's puzzled look, he said calmly, "You're dressed a little too lightly today. I'm worried you'll catch a cold."
