Chapter 282 Distant Surveillance
Chapter 282 Distant Surveillance
Upon hearing this question, Qiuhe paused for a moment, then a relaxed and easygoing smile gradually spread across his face. "Because the people I love, and my family, they're all still waiting for me out there. Being a boss might feel really cool, but I still want to wait until I finish my sentence and share the joys of life with them again."
Hearing this answer, Leosley didn't ask any more questions. But a hint of complexity crept into his worried eyes once again. "Oh, by the way, Leosley, once you become the warden here, there's something I hope you can do."
Leosley listened quietly. “If one day you need to choose between loyalty and your duties as warden, I hope you will uphold your duty. Oh, and one more thing I need to tell you: I was sentenced to Melo Petersburg for attempting to assassinate the Water God. Although it wasn't my intention, that's how the law is, and I respect the outcome.”
Hearing Akikawa casually recount the reason for his imprisonment in Mero Petersburg, Leiosli felt a flicker of surprise and disbelief. Just as he was about to speak after a brief silence...
Qiuhe let out a long sigh of relief and laughed. "Sigh? Alright, alright, what's past is past. Talking about this has made me hungry. It's almost noon, let's go eat."
After finishing her sentence, Qiuhe pulled Leosley towards the dining area. Once there, they sat down at a table and ordered a stewed meat casserole. As they waited for it to be served, Qiuhe looked at the casserole, which was about the size of an adult's head, and the enticing aroma of meat wafting from it. Qiuhe slowly opened the lid of the casserole.
Looking at the plump chunks of beef and potatoes in the pot, and the fragrant, bubbling broth that was constantly tantalizing Qiuhe's taste buds, Qiuhe realized that this one pot of stewed meat alone had cost him a full five thousand coupons. Qiuhe looked up at a group of people sitting at a table not far away, their table completely opposite to his own.
There were only a few simple bowls of vegetable porridge and side dishes that looked utterly unappetizing. The thick, oily gravy and the terrible color of the food were, frankly, no different from just throwing together a bunch of vegetables when feeding pigs. Despite doing the hardest and most arduous work, a table full of people ended up eating food that was completely disproportionate to their labor.
The gap between the rich and poor had been stretched to its limit at this moment. A simple beef stew with potatoes, enough for only two people, cost five thousand coupons. At first, Qiuhe did not feel any sympathy for this group of criminals, but seeing all this and recalling what Leosley had said earlier, he began to understand a little.
Not everyone here is a heinous criminal deserving of death; here, they have no dignity. The existence of an independent set of rules and laws preordains injustice, and the uncertainty of whether the sun or eternal slumber will come first. "Qiuhe." Just as Qiuhe was filled with thoughts...
Leiosli's call roused him from his reverie. "Qiuhe, is that person not far behind you someone you know? He seems to be watching you intentionally or unintentionally." Qiuhe was initially puzzled when he heard whether it was someone he knew.
Just as he was about to turn around, he heard the words, "I was glancing at you, whether intentionally or unintentionally." Qiuhe immediately stopped turning around, thought for a long time, and then asked softly, "Leosley, what does the person behind me look like? Does he have any obvious or prominent features?"
After hearing this, Leosley looked at the man again. The man, who had been glancing at Qiuhe from time to time, noticed that Leosley seemed to be looking at him and then turned his head away to avoid eye contact. Leosley, noticing this unusual behavior, seemed to sense something was wrong and scrutinized him carefully.
"His face was somewhat thin, his eyebrows were thick, and his hair was somewhat brown. He was dressed similarly to the other prisoners, in gray work clothes, which were all regular work clothes. There were no other distinguishing features. Moreover, I had never seen this person before in Mero Petersburg."
As Qiuhe listened to the description, his eyes darted left and right. He then noticed a burly man entering a room not far away. Judging from the sign and slogan on the outer wall, it was probably a restroom. Seeing this, Qiuhe slowly stood up. "Leosley, you eat first. I'm going to the restroom and will be right back. Also, whatever happens later, don't pay attention to it. Just pretend you didn't hear anything."
After Qiuhe finished speaking, she walked towards the restroom. The man in the distance, seeing Qiuhe leave and enter the restroom, followed her. Just as the man was about to casually enter the restroom, because the restroom was a corner, neither of them saw each other when the burly man who had entered earlier came out.
Finally, the man in the gray overalls collided with the burly man. The man in the gray overalls staggered back two steps, looked up, and saw a nearly two-meter-tall, muscular man whose bulging muscles looked particularly menacing in the dim light.
The man in gray felt a chill run down his spine and quickly bowed his head in apology, "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention." After saying this, the man in gray intended to walk around the burly man into the restroom, but the burly man slowly raised his hand to block his path.
He narrowed his eyes, staring at the man in gray, his voice deep and domineering. "You think you can just apologize after bumping into me and that's it? I mean, don't you have eyes when you walk? There's a grown man here, are you blind? You bumped into me like that. If you're blind, then donate your eyes." The burly man said, reaching out and shoving the man in gray with such force that he slammed into the wall.
The man in gray felt a tightness in his chest from the shove. He was about to explain when the burly man pressed closer again, his fists clenched, seemingly ready to strike at any moment. The man in gray quickly raised his hands and waved them frantically, trying to calm the other man's anger. "Hey, hey, I really didn't mean to, brother, please don't be angry!"
However, the burly man clearly wasn't having any of it. He sneered, shoved the man in gray again, and cursed, "What, you think an apology is all it takes? An apology is all it takes! You bumped into me, so I'm asking you what you're going to do about it?!"
Just as the burly man kept pushing the gray-clad man away, a small mechanical device suddenly fell out of the gray-clad man's pocket with a crisp click and rolled to the ground. The gray-clad man panicked instantly; he hurriedly bent down to pick it up, but the burly man was faster. He glanced down at it, then stomped on it hard.
*Crack!* The mechanical device shattered beneath the burly man's feet, crackling and crackling with electricity. The gray-clad man's pupils contracted sharply, his panic turning to rage. He raised his head, his voice low and icy: "Hey, you idiot! Do you know what you're doing?!"
The burly man scoffed, shrugging dismissively. "Just stepped on some junk. What, you want to fight me?" The gray-clad man's eyes turned cold. He slowly straightened up, his voice filled with suppressed rage. "This thing was meticulously crafted by that lord. You idiot, you can wait for your family to go to hell with you."
Upon hearing this, the burly man's smile vanished instantly, replaced by a violent expression. He swung his fist fiercely, aiming for the gray-clad man's face. The gray-clad man was surprisingly agile, but despite dodging several attacks, he was ultimately struck by the sheer force of the blow and staggered back to the ground.
The burly man looked down at him, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "What's wrong with you? You think you're so tough? Is that all you've got? You dare threaten me?"
Enraged by the insults, the man in gray quickly stood up and threw a punch at the other man, which was dodged. He then threw another punch, landing it directly on the burly man's face.
The burly man, though taking a punch that barely hurt, was still furious. He moved his hand to his waist, pulled out a small knife, and plunged it into the gray-clad man's abdomen, feeling the sharp pain shooting through his stomach.
The man in gray, clutching his stomach, staggered back against the wall, realizing his abdomen was bleeding profusely and that the burly man was holding a dripping knife. Terrified, the gray-clad man's eyes widened at the sight. The burly man lunged again, grabbing the gray-clad man by the back of the neck and stabbing him repeatedly.
"Aaaaaah!!!" The gray-clad man's screams attracted the attention of the other criminals still eating nearby. When they reached the restroom, they saw the man in protective gear trembling and spitting blood continuously.
The burly man continued stabbing, relentlessly turning the man in gray into a pincushion.
