Chapter 16 Humanity and Sophistication
Chapter 16 Humanity and Sophistication
Seeing her reserved demeanor, Feng Jiashu chuckled, "What's so difficult about that? How many boxes do you want?"
He Qiaoyun beamed with joy, “Five boxes.”
"No problem, I'll have someone send it out to you."
Feng Jiashu turned around and said a few words to his assistant. The group of people dispersed, and all the cars drove away, leaving only her and Feng Jiashu at the gate.
As He Qiaoyun watched the car drive away, she turned to Feng Jiashu and said, "By the way, you should go back now, don't let it interfere with your work."
Feng Jiashu smiled and said, "It's alright. Now that the leader has left, I can take a break for a while."
He Qiaoyun covered her mouth and laughed, then changed the subject: "This is really troublesome. I had already borrowed bees from someone, but he suddenly changed his mind and lent them out."
“I went to other villages to borrow bees, but after asking around for a long time, I still couldn’t borrow any. Then a friend from the same village told me that our base has beekeeping.”
"I'm really lucky. I was about to give up when I met you."
Feng Jiashu turned his head and glanced at her, his gaze inadvertently falling on her vivid emotions.
He Qiaoyun noticed his gaze out of the corner of her eye, subconsciously turned her head, and met his eyes. Feeling inexplicably embarrassed, she quickly turned her head away.
"Um, thank you." Her tone betrayed a hint of panic.
Feng Jiashu looked away and said, "No need to thank me. You saved Tian Tian. Even if I helped you ten times, I still couldn't repay this huge favor."
He Qiaoyun quickly said, "Actually, it was just a small favor I did that day, you don't need to worry about it."
As they were talking, the gate barrier slowly lifted, and a van slowly drove out and stopped beside the two of them. The old man driving the van leaned out of the car.
"All five beehives are inside, get in the car."
Feng Jiashu said, "I'll go down with you."
He Qiaoyun: "No need, you should go back and get busy. Don't let me delay your work."
Feng Jiashu waved his hand, "It won't delay you. My job is very flexible. I also wanted to see your orchard."
"also."
The three of them rode downhill in a car. When they arrived at the orchard, the old beekeeper stopped the car, opened the trunk, and started moving the bees.
When Sister Xia saw He Qiaoyun standing with Feng Jiashu, she asked in a gossipy tone, "Qiaoyun, who is this...?"
He Qiaoyun introduced him, saying, "He's from the medicinal herb research base..."
Seeing her pause, Feng Jiashu quickly added, "I'm a worker at the base, here to help."
Xia Jie's gossip spirit was extinguished; she thought he was He Qiaoyun's new friend, and the two seemed quite well-matched.
Although it's cold today, the sun is shining brightly, making it a perfect day for bee pollination.
The old man was carrying bees to a designated location for releasing them. He Qiaoyun wanted to go and help, but the old man wouldn't let her, saying he could handle it all by himself.
Everyone has their own expertise, and He Qiaoyun, not being a professional beekeeper, decided not to interfere.
Sister Xia went off to attend to her own business, leaving only her and Feng Jiashu in the vast orchard.
For some reason, He Qiaoyun always felt awkward when she was alone with Feng Jiashu, and she didn't know what to talk about.
But since this man had just helped her a lot, she couldn't very well send him away.
She took Feng Jiashu to the tin-roofed house where they could rest in the orchard.
"Come in, sit down for a while, and have a cup of tea."
Feng Jiashu hesitated before entering the small house, which was less than 20 square meters and had a dusty black leather sofa.
He Qiaoyun took out a few tissues, wiped the dust off the sofa, and said awkwardly, "I'm sorry, I'm usually in the city, and I only come back to the orchard occasionally. I just come back to check on it and then leave."
Feng Jiashu patted the sofa and sat down. "It's alright, I understand."
People are always busy when they are in an awkward situation. He Qiaoyun searched the whole house for a kettle and tea leaves, and then ran to the tap outside the door to fill a kettle with water.
While waiting for the water to boil, she found the dusty teaware and was about to go out to wash it when Feng Jiashu said, "No need to bother, I'm not thirsty, you can sit for a while."
He Qiaoyun awkwardly put down the tea set and said, "Okay."
The two sat facing each other, but didn't know what to talk about, and the atmosphere became tense.
After a while, He Qiaoyun noticed an unopened pack of cigarettes under the coffee table and subconsciously asked, "Do you smoke?"
Feng Jiashu shook his head. "I don't smoke."
He Qiaoyun steered the conversation to the children, "By the way, how old is Tian Tian?"
"Six years old this year."
“I also have a daughter, who is 26 years old this year. After graduating with a master’s degree, she became a doctor at the Municipal Medical University.”
Feng Jiashu smiled faintly, "Very promising."
He Qiaoyun was delighted to hear this, but still modestly waved her hand, "No way, I'm very worried about her. I even had a fight with her a few days ago."
Why are you arguing?
"Don't even mention it. I don't know what got into her, but she insisted on quitting her job to become a housewife. In the words of young people, she's just love-struck. She got accepted into a doctoral program, but then she just quit. I'm so worried I want to open her head and see what she's thinking..."
Feng Jiashu said, "Perhaps you can try letting go and letting her get hurt once, and she will naturally realize her mistake."
He Qiaoyun said helplessly, "I understand that principle, but I just can't bear to see her get hurt."
As parents, of course they want their children to have a good life, which is why they tirelessly teach them how to avoid these pitfalls.
But the child seemed to be possessed, unable to listen to anything being said.
Those being taught feel annoyed, while those teaching feel exhausted.
Feng Jiashu smiled and said, "There's a saying that goes, 'You can't teach someone everything, but you can teach someone something once. Even if the result is bad, it's her own choice. This is part of her growth. Too much interference will only have the opposite effect. We can only lend a hand when she's helpless."
He Qiaoyun agreed, "That's the only way."
My only fear is that my daughter will realize this too late, waste her youth, and regret it for the rest of her life...
Forget it.
Children and grandchildren have their own blessings; everything is predestined.
After chatting with Feng Jiashu for a while, she felt much more relaxed.
The old beekeeper returned, and the two of them walked out of the tin-roofed house.
The old man said, "I'll collect the bees tonight, you don't need to worry about it."
He Qiaoyun quickly thanked her, "Thank you very much. How much is it? I'll pay you."
The old man glanced at Feng Jiashu and waved his hand, "What money? My bees come to your orchard to collect honey, we each get what we need."
Feng Jiashu added, "I've already told them they don't need to pay."
"Thank you very much."
"You're too kind," Feng Jiashu said, then asked, "Is this huge orchard managed by you alone?"
He Qiaoyun didn't think much of it. "Well, when I was planning to contract the orchard, the kids all said I was messing around, and my husband even told me to transfer it. Now that we're divorced, no one can control me anymore."
Upon hearing the word "divorce," Feng Jiashu's eyebrows involuntarily rose, and he secretly regretted not taking the money earlier, as he could have easily added the person on WeChat.
He Qiaoyun realized she had said too much and quickly changed the subject, "You've been bothering me for an hour, go back now, don't delay your work."
Feng Jiashu had no reason to stay any longer. Besides, if he stayed any longer, people would assume he had ulterior motives...
"Okay, if you need anything, just give them my name and they'll let you through."
He Qiaoyun chuckled inexplicably, "Okay, thank you."
"No need to thank me. Didn't I say that even helping you ten times wouldn't be enough to repay the debt of saving my life?"
Before they left, He Qiaoyun went back to the prefab house, took out the pack of cigarettes, and handed it to the old man. "Uncle, thank you for your trouble. It's nothing valuable, and I don't smoke. It's just to help you pass the time."
The old man stared at the red Zhonghua cigarette in her hand, but didn't refuse. "Alright, then I won't be polite."
Feng Jiashu followed the old man into the van and returned to the base, and then went back to the city.
