Chapter 171 Who Dares to Make a Move
Chapter 171 Who Dares to Make a Move
"You..." The older woman was about to explode when I quickly said, "It seems you don't want us to leave!"
"Hmph, hurry up and pack your things, then get out of here," the middle-aged woman said aggressively.
I glared back and followed Jiang Yichen back to his room to continue helping him pack.
I watched him silently tidy up the items. There were no valuables, just a few notebooks and some precious photos, all of which were his personal belongings.
I couldn't help but feel a little doubtful, so I asked, "Yichen, are you sure you brought everything? Do you need me to help you look for anything else important?"
Jiang Yichen shook his head and said with a smile, "No need, it's all packed up. These notebooks record bits and pieces of my past, and these photos are my precious memories. That's enough."
When the two returned to the spacious and bright hall, a gorgeously dressed, imposing middle-aged woman was already waiting there with several servants, clearly having come prepared.
The middle-aged woman's eyes were sharp as an eagle's, fixed on the bag in Jiang Yichen's hand, as if it contained some unspeakable secret.
"Jiang Yichen, open the bag, I need to check your things!" The old woman's voice was sharp and shrill, full of unquestionable authority.
Jiang Yichen's face instantly darkened, his eyes as cold as ice. He swept his gaze over the surrounding servants and asked coldly, "Who dares to make a move?"
The servants looked at each other, clearly wary of Jiang Yichen's authority, and none of them dared to step forward.
Seeing this, the old woman stomped her feet in anger, cursing them for being useless. Then she took matters into her own hands, rushing towards Jiang Yichen and trying to snatch the bag from his hand.
A sudden scramble ensued in the hall. Jiang Yichen tried his best to protect the bag in his hands, but the older woman refused to back down.
In the chaos, several photos slipped out of the bag and fluttered to the floor.
I reacted quickly and rushed forward to help pick up the photos.
When I saw the contents of the photo, I was surprised – it was a photo of myself as a child with a boy.
I didn't have time to think about what was going on.
The woman snatched the photos and flipped through them rudely, her face full of disdain and contempt.
Upon discovering that they were just worthless photos, the old woman threw them back at Jiang Yichen without any mercy, muttering, "What a cheapskate! They're just a bunch of worthless photos. What's the point of keeping them? Humph."
"I've finished inspecting the items, now get out of here! Don't dirty my floor."
Jiang Yichen took the photo, his eyes flashing with complex emotions.
He clutched the photos tightly, his eyes blazing with anger.
The older woman looked frightened and took two steps back, saying cautiously, "What...what are you going to do? I'm warning you, don't do anything rash, or I'll have my bodyguards kick you out."
I stood silently to the side, my heart filled with anger and dissatisfaction at the old lady's unreasonable behavior.
Everything the Jiang family has now is thanks to Jiang Yichen's hard work and perseverance, but what have they done?
No matter what happens, they shouldn't kick Jiang Yichen when he's down like that.
Jiang Yichen picked up the photos from the ground, tidied up his things, and turned to leave.
I jogged to catch up.
Back at the villa, I couldn't help but ask, puzzled, "What exactly happened?"
Jiang Yichen's shoulders trembled slightly. He slowly turned around, his eyes revealing an indescribable bitterness and helplessness.
“My father received an anonymous letter that said… that I am not his biological son.” His voice was low and hoarse.
I overheard some of the arguments in the office, but hearing it from the person in question still surprised me.
"What?!" I was shocked and could hardly believe my ears.
After all, when Jiang Yichen was found by the Jiang family, it took a lot of twists and turns and proof before his identity was finally confirmed. How come such a statement suddenly comes out now?
"Not only that, the letter also included a so-called paternity test report."
Jiang Yichen continued, his hands clenched into fists, clearly trying his best to suppress his anger and resentment, "Now, I have been kicked out of the Jiang family and have become a homeless person."
I looked at him, my heart filled with complex emotions.
Sympathy, anger, and a yearning for the truth intertwined, making me want to speak out for him.
"How could this be? There must be some misunderstanding!"
Jiang Yichen shook his head slightly, his expression somewhat gloomy.
"It doesn't matter. The reason they asked me to come back was because that woman couldn't have children. Over the years, I haven't cared about anyone except my grandmother."
I gently patted his hand and said tenderly, "Yichen, I understand how important Grandma is to you. From now on, no matter what happens, I will go back to see her with you. You will always be Grandma's most beloved grandson."
Jiang Yichen looked at me, a hint of emotion flashing in his eyes.
However, he quickly lowered his head again and said in a low voice, "But I have nothing now, I'm a down-on-his-luck guy. I can't take care of the Gu family anymore. If you... if you choose Song Le, I won't stop you."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but get angry.
I suddenly raised my head, looked directly into his eyes, and said firmly, "Jiang Yichen! Why can't you understand? There's nothing between Song Le and me, we're completely innocent! And let me tell you, I'm not going anywhere, I'm staying here with you! You'll never be homeless, because you have me, you have the Gu family!"
If he weren't genuinely pitiful right now, I would suspect that he was deliberately putting on a humble act to elicit my sympathy.
"Alright, stop being so sentimental, let's get packing!"
I took out those photos he cherished, and found the photo of me and the little boy again, wondering if Jiang Yichen and I had known each other since childhood.
Why do I have no recollection of this at all?
And we both have the same photo, but Jiang Yichen has never mentioned it.
I had countless questions in my mind. I glanced back at Jiang Yichen, who had just answered the phone. He seemed to sense that I was looking at him, and he turned around to look at me, his eyes seeming to ask me: What's wrong?
I shook my head and continued to help him tidy up.
He quickly hung up the phone and came over, putting his arms around me and gently asking, "Go and rest, I'll take care of these things."
"Jiang Yichen, I have a question for you."
Jiang Yichen, unusually good-natured, asked, "What's the problem?"
I took out the photo and showed it to him, tentatively asking, "Is the person in the photo... you?"
"Yes, it's me." Jiang Yichen's answer made me gasp for breath.
"So we knew each other before?"
