Chapter 54 Uncle's Family
Chapter 54 Uncle's Family
When Yu Tian drove home, it was almost evening. Only Jiang Lingran was still home, so he called her to come down and help him get some groceries.
Jiang Lingran started walking downstairs after receiving the call, but she was surprised when she arrived at the parking lot. "So many dishes!"
The entire trunk of the car, along with the front seats, was crammed full.
Yu Tian said helplessly, "These were prepared by my sister and the others. You know Xiao Yu quit her job and went home to farm, right? These vegetables were grown by her own hands. She said she wanted you to try them."
Jiang Lingran took the groceries and picked up two large bags. "There's no need for so much. We can't possibly finish all this food at home."
Yu Tian carried the groceries forward, saying, "Then I'll send some over to my relatives and friends."
Jiang Lingran nodded, "I'll send some over later."
Yu Tian added, "But this dish is quite delicious. Once you've tasted it, you might not want to give it away."
Jiang Lingran didn't care much. Farmhouse dishes are just fresher, right? It's not like she's never eaten them before.
"That's great. Farmhouse food is usually delicious and healthy."
Seeing his wife's nonchalant attitude, Yu Tian could only chuckle to himself, knowing that she was about to be proven wrong.
Jiang Lingran and Yu Tian went back and forth several times before they finished carrying all the vegetables. Jiang Lingran looked at the vegetables in front of her with a headache. Seeing the time, she realized that the children would be back soon, so she decided to just cook a few dishes at random.
She plugged in the rice cooker, grabbed two tomatoes and a bunch of bok choy, and decided to make a soup and a stir-fry. Meanwhile, she was making a plate of stir-fried pork with green peppers. Once her daughter finished eating, she would immediately go back to her evening self-study session.
She moved swiftly, and Yu Tian helped prepare the ingredients. Once the ingredients were ready, they were quickly cooked and served.
By the time the meal was ready, the children had returned home and were about to eat.
The two children were already seated. The daughter is in high school and will have to go back to school for evening self-study after dinner.
Jiang Lingran urged her to eat something quickly, and once the meal was ready, she told her to eat as soon as possible.
Yu Jing didn't stand on ceremony and started eating right away. She originally planned to eat something quick and then go back to school, since the time allotted by the school was quite tight. She figured she could just have a meal and rest for a while before heading back to school.
But she never expected her mother to cook such delicious food today, which turned her two or three bites into one or two bowls.
"Mom, you cooked such delicious food today, I don't want to go out."
Jiang Lingran was quite surprised after inviting her son and husband to sit down and taking a bite.
"My cooking skills are still the same as usual. This dish was brought back by your sister Shiyu through your dad. It's really good."
My chubby son came home and ate without even looking up, exclaiming, "This is so delicious! I could eat a hundred bowls of this!"
Yu Tian patted his son, "Don't eat too fast, kid, or you'll have indigestion later."
Yu Jing didn't think too much about it, she just exclaimed, "Sister Shi Yu is so amazing! These vegetables are so delicious. I want to eat the vegetables she grows in the future."
Yu Tian nodded after eating the dish. Through his two tastings, he could tell that it wasn't a problem with the cooking skills, but rather that the quality of the dish itself had improved.
He joked, "See, honey? I told you you wouldn't want to give the food away now."
Jiang Lingran blushed slightly, but then generously said, "I didn't know it would be so delicious, but it would be a waste if we couldn't finish it. We'll give some to our relatives later."
The chubby little boy in the family immediately objected, "Mom, no! I want to eat it all!"
Jiang Lingran pinched the child's nose. "You little glutton, you want to eat everything, and when you find something delicious, you want to finish it all. How can you do that? Just finish the bowl in front of you first."
A burst of laughter immediately filled the living room.
After finishing her meal, Yu Jing reluctantly returned to school. At first, she thought it was too much trouble for day students to come back for meals, and it was more convenient for students who lived on campus. Anyway, the school food wasn't particularly bad.
But now she might not think that way anymore. If her family cooks such delicious food every day, she would be willing to come home many times a day.
"Mom, when I come back, you have to cook Shi Yu's dishes for me."
Seeing her daughter so happy, Jiang Lingran said, "Don't worry, you won't be left out, no matter who's missing."
Yu Jing went to school with a mix of satisfaction and regret, and she felt incredibly energetic!
Jiang Lingran looked back at the dishes, now truly reluctant to give them away, and spoke to Yu Tian.
"I'll just send some to my mom's place, and we'll keep the rest for ourselves. I can use this chive to make a bunch of dumplings and put them in the fridge so we can cook them whenever we want. It would be too much of a waste to send them away."
Yu Tian chuckled, "See, you've contradicted yourself now. This dish is so delicious, I really can't bear to give away too much of it. My kids love it."
The youngest son immediately jumped up and said, "Yes, I love eating this! Mom, don't send too much away. I can eat it all by myself."
Jiang Lingran joked, "You're a big eater, you can finish it all by yourself."
After a moment's hesitation, the son said, "Yes, I'm a little stomach king!"
"Hahaha"
Xia Shiyu was unaware of the wonderful things that had happened at her uncle's house, but her family seemed quite joyful, and the house felt much more lively after the two more people joined.
My maternal grandparents are always busy; whenever they come to my house, I have to find something to do, like feeding the dogs and chickens.
Grandpa even found some bamboo and wove it into a bamboo basket.
“I think you’ll need them anyway, so I’ll just braid a few since I have nothing else to do.” After saying this, Grandpa’s men skillfully began to wrap the bamboo strips.
As a result, Xia Shiyu felt that she had even less to do. All the chores at home had been taken over by others. After thinking about it, Xia Shiyu could only lie down for now and take care of dinner.
She thought for a moment and realized she still had some tender corn at home, so she decided to make a pot of corn cakes!
She first found the tender corn, then carefully threshed it, put it in a basin to wash it clean, and then used a machine to grind it into a thick paste.
Finally, add a little flour to soak, stir well, and then find the washed mulberry leaves.
Use a spoon to select the appropriate amount of dough and place it on a mulberry leaf. Once done, steam it directly in a pot.
Add a pot of porridge and some cold dishes, and you're all set.
Grandma picked up a corn cake; the golden dough was wrapped in a mulberry leaf, and when she lifted it, a rich corn aroma rose up.
She took a bite and gave a thumbs up, "It tastes really good. Xiaoyu's cooking skills are getting better and better."
Xia Shiyu smiled happily, very proud, her cooking skills were getting better and better.
That evening, the family chatted happily amidst the aroma of corn, and happiness filled the air, lingering in everyone's eyes.
