Chapter 385 New Readers
Chapter 385 New Readers
"Host, you've received another reward!"
Having not heard this voice for a long time, Lin Liuyi was quite excited to hear about the donation.
But what are all these things?
Lin Liuyi looked at his left hand, which was a yellowish-brown lump, and his right hand, which was a small, light blue ball.
The one on the left feels hard when you squeeze it, while the one on the right feels soft.
"Get rich! Do you know what these two things are?"
"Host, the system has detected that the ball in your left hand contains earth energy, and the ball in your right hand contains water energy," the system quickly provided.
Oh, so one is a clod of dirt and the other is a water balloon.
But this clod of earth is a little different.
Lin Liuyi examined the clod of dirt in her hand. It was round, like a small landmine, or some kind of novel fruit. If the system hadn't said it was all dirt inside, she might have wanted to take a bite and try it.
Looking at the other side, the blue water sphere is much prettier than the earth fruit. Its light blue shell is like the color of the ocean, and its soft body suggests that it contains a lot of water.
Looking at these tips, Lin Liuyi felt that the readers' world must be quite unique this time.
Meanwhile, in another world, several solitary cities float on the boundless horizon, like scattered pearls adorning the endless blue sky.
New Atlantis is the largest of them, consisting of hundreds of interconnected platforms that drift slowly with the ocean currents.
The buildings here are constructed using lightweight alloys and special polymers, enabling them to withstand the most intense ocean storms.
Since a certain day, it has been raining incessantly, as if the sky itself had leaked.
Sea levels began to rise gradually, eventually submerging the city's landmass until only the ocean remained.
Only a portion of humanity survived this natural disaster. The survivors quickly adapted to life in the ocean and developed technology to help them survive.
Fortunately, humanity succeeded, which led to the creation of floating cities.
The largest of them was named "New Atlantis".
Even the water puff fruit grew out of the ocean one day. People at the time thought it was something produced by a mutation in the ocean, but they never expected that it was filled with fresh water.
Thus, one of the problems that humanity depends on for survival was solved instantly.
Doesn't it sound incredible that freshwater fruits can grow in a saltwater ocean?
But nature is so amazing, and so the water puff fruit appeared around everyone.
They no longer need to carry fresh water when they go out to sea; they can simply pick some from the ocean when they need it, as these water berries grow everywhere in the ocean.
Yu Yang, who had gifted two Water Pellets, was standing under the transparent dome of the research institute, looking out at the surging waves through the reinforced glass.
He was thirty-five years old, thin, and his skin had a healthy wheat color from years of working at sea, with a few strands of silver hair visible in his black hair.
Sigh, I wonder where that book took the water puff fruit.
“Dr. Yu, you should take a look at this.” Assistant Kobayashi’s voice came through the communicator, interrupting his thoughts.
Yu Yang turned and walked towards the holographic projection table in the center of the laboratory. Data streams intertwined in the air, forming complex waveforms.
“We detected an unusual sonar signal at 145 degrees east longitude and 12 degrees north latitude,” Kobayashi said, pointing to a set of data on the projection. “The frequency and amplitude do not match the characteristics of any known marine life.”
Yu Yang frowned and tapped the image to zoom in.
Those waveforms exhibit a near-perfect geometric pattern, which is by no means naturally formed.
“Contact Cheng Hai,” he said immediately. “We need his ‘Dolphin.’”
Three hours later, Yu Yang and Cheng Hai were already sitting in the small submersible "Dolphin" and slowly sinking to the depths of the ocean.
Cheng Hai is Yu Yang's old friend and also the best deep-sea engineer at New Atlantis.
He was a few years older than Yu Yang, physically strong, and always had an optimistic smile on his face, maintaining a rare sense of humor even in this era of scarce resources.
“Seriously, Lao Yu,” Cheng Hai adjusted the parameters on the control panel, “if it’s another mutated squid or giant anemone this time, I’ll have to charge double the fuel fee.”
Yu Yang did not respond to the joke; his eyes were fixed on the sonar screen.
“Five more meters,” he whispered. “The signal is getting stronger.”
The submersible continued to sink, and the surrounding light gradually disappeared, leaving only the limited area illuminated by the searchlight.
The pressure gauges showed that they had reached a depth of 2000 meters below sea level.
"My God..." Cheng Hai suddenly gasped.
Before them, the beam of searchlight illuminated a huge, semi-circular structure covered in coral and seaweed, but still recognizable as man-made.
Even more shocking is the circular logo at the top of the structure that emits a faint blue light—the logo of UNESCO from the pre-civilization era.
“This is impossible…” Yu Yang’s voice trembled almost violently. “Before the great flood, this area should have been land.”
Cheng Hai maneuvered the submersible closer to the building. "It looks like some kind of research facility; it's quite well-preserved."
Cheng Hai was also a little excited; he wanted to know exactly what this was for.
They walked around the building and found a half-open entrance.
Yu Yang's heart raced—in his twenty years of ocean research, he had never seen such a complete underwater relic of a pre-civilization.
“I want to go in and take a look,” he decided.
"Are you crazy?" Cheng Hai's eyes widened. "We don't know what's going on inside, the pressure, the structural stability..."
“That’s why we need your professional assessment,” Yu Yang said, already getting up to get his diving gear. “If the structure isn’t safe, we’ll retreat.”
Ten minutes later, the two men, wearing reinforced diving suits, entered the water through the decompression chamber.
Cheng Hai reluctantly followed behind Yu Yang, holding a structural scanner in his hand.
“Remember, if anything unusual happens, we retreat immediately,” Cheng Hai emphasized through the communicator. “I don’t want to be your casualty.”
Yu Yang did not answer; his attention was completely drawn to the discovery before him.
They swam through the entrance and into a dark corridor.
The helmet lights illuminated the sign on the wall: "Biogene Bank Area B".
"This is... a gene preservation facility from a pre-civilization?" Yu Yang said in surprise.
They continued forward, passing through several malfunctioning security doors, and arrived at a circular hall.
In the center of the hall is a huge cylindrical container, whose high-tech structure is still evident despite being submerged in seawater for a century.
The container was filled with some kind of gel-like substance, and within it...
"What is that?" Cheng Hai's voice suddenly became wary.
