Chapter 97 Stop pretending, President Wen
Chapter 97 Stop pretending, President Wen
In the car, Ning Yao sat with Robert.
The scenery outside kept receding into the distance, the shadows of the trees mixed with the freshness of the wild air, making people feel relaxed and happy.
“Mr. Robert, you have spread rumors by telling everyone that I am your woman without my consent.”
Ning Yao calmly pointed out that Robert's behavior was impolite, as if she were talking about something perfectly ordinary, yet it carried a hint of accusation.
"If you weren't my woman, what legitimate and selfless reason could I have used to protect you in that situation?" Robert raised an eyebrow, staring at Ning Yao with sleepy eyes.
Ning Yao remained silent for a long time, clearly speechless at his question.
Robert chuckled, then stretched out his arm and pulled Ning Yao's entire upper body into his embrace.
As Robert moved, Ning Yao felt a unique masculine aura wafting towards her, clean and refreshing, with a faint hint of tobacco. It wasn't strong and wouldn't make her feel uncomfortable at all, only a sense of steady security.
Ning Yao was surprised when Robert suddenly reached out and hugged her. When she pressed her face against Robert's chest, she heard his strong heartbeat and heard his deep male voice in her ear.
"You really are a cunning little fox. Why weren't you in a hurry to distance yourself when someone pointed a gun at you? Now that the danger is over, you're turning your back on us, aren't you?"
Robert spoke slowly and elegantly, glancing at the woman in his arms as if condemning Ning Yao as a terrible villain who was used to such treacherous acts, yet he showed no remorse and even seemed to enjoy it.
Ning Yao couldn't figure out what Robert was thinking, so she could only swallow her anger and stop arguing with him.
"Are you angry?" Seeing her like this, Robert held the back of her head, forcing her to look at him.
The moment their eyes met, Ning Yao rolled her eyes at him resentfully, then looked away, unwilling to meet Robert's gaze. Her charming and cute appearance made Robert chuckle softly.
"You can rest assured, Bruce won't break his promise just because he can't have you."
"What makes you so sure?" Ning Yao didn't want to maintain an ambiguous relationship with Bruce, but it was better to refuse him tactfully than to embarrass him in front of everyone. She was really worried that Bruce would go back on his cooperation with her, and then she would have worked for nothing.
Making good use of one's physical attributes to get men to serve one's needs is a natural advantage for beautiful women. Ning Yao believed she had the ability to manage her relationship with Bruce.
"The Bruce family motto is 'a promise is a promise.' They either don't agree to something, or they always keep their word. This is why the Bruce family is highly respected among the nobles of Country Y and has stood the test of time throughout history," Robert explained patiently, looking down at the little woman in his arms.
No wonder Bruce had been reluctant to cooperate with her, cautiously testing her and negotiating repeatedly before finally agreeing.
After hearing this, Ning Yao fell into deep thought, completely forgetting that she was still being held in Robert's arms, their posture ambiguous and intimate, no different from that of a normal couple.
Ning Yao recalled what happened at the party and asked suspiciously, "Since the Bruce family values promises, wouldn't Bruce's proposal to divorce Clarice at the banquet tonight be a violation of his marriage vows?"
"Bruce's marriage to the Duke of Argyll's daughter was a political marriage. He did not promise to be with her for life on the day of their marriage. Bruce's desire to divorce her cannot be considered a breach of vow."
So that's how it is. As long as it doesn't affect her cooperation with Bruce, Ning Yao doesn't care about anything else.
The car drove through the fields, and the stones on the ground made the road uneven. Even though the car was good and the driver was skilled, Ning Yao was still jolted by some of the potholes. She suddenly got up from Robert's arms, pursed her lips, and didn't say anything.
Robert glanced at the driver in the rearview mirror. The driver noticed the cold, indifferent gaze sweeping over him and his heart skipped a beat. He straightened his back and became extremely alert, no longer daring to drive the car into the ditch.
The atmosphere inside the car was silent. Ning Yao recalled the details of the party, then suddenly looked at Robert, her fox-like eyes full of curiosity.
"At the party, Mr. Bruce was initially being suppressed by the Clarisse family, but his attitude changed drastically after receiving a message. Did you do something?"
Ning Yao couldn't think of anyone else, except Robert, who only showed up at the party after Bruce received the message.
"Want to know?" Robert's deep blue eyes, which were fixed on Ning Yao, held a faint smile.
When Ning Yao saw Robert's smile, she immediately realized that Robert was about to find another opportunity to tease her.
Sure enough, Robert's next sentence was about bargaining.
"You should know that if others want to get the answers they want from me, they have to pay the same price."
"Tell me, what price do you need to pay to answer my question?" Ning Yao retorted.
In the dim light inside the car, Ning Yao's fox-like eyes gleamed with a shrewd light, making her incredibly beautiful, like dazzling stars reflected in her eyes.
Robert looked at Ning Yao, then raised his long, slender fingers and lightly tapped his cheek twice with his fingertips.
"Give me a kiss, and I'll tell you the answer."
Ning Yao was annoyed by Robert's actions, but at the same time, she saw the shadow of another man in Robert, and her heart began to beat faster involuntarily.
Wen Tingye also liked to tease her like this, always talking about fair trade, as if he couldn't bear to suffer even the slightest loss.
"Never mind, I'm not that interested in knowing." She was just bored on the way back to the manor and wanted to chat with Robert.
Since the other party doesn't want to talk to her properly and only wants to take advantage of her, then it's better not to talk to her anymore.
After saying that, Ning Yao turned her head away and stopped looking at Robert.
But the next second, Robert pulled her closer to him. Due to inertia, Ning Yao's face turned towards Robert. At this moment, the car entered a tunnel, and the lights inside the car became even dimmer. The flickering light outside the car window shone on their blurry figures, creating a somewhat alluring hazy scene.
Robert's lips brushed against her softness, and Ning Yao could even feel Robert's burning heat.
Even though the car was accelerating through the tunnel, Ning Yao felt as if she couldn't feel it moving. It was as if everything around her had stopped, leaving only her and Robert. Her heart was pounding wildly, and she couldn't help but press her hand to her chest, as if that would relieve the pain.
Ning Yao saw her own reflection in Robert's deep blue eyes—soft, gentle, and charming, with traces of emotion easily visible.
She quickly pulled away from Robert, shrinking herself against the car door on her side, pressing herself tightly against it, away from Robert.
"I merely led a group to raid Duke Argyll's armory and incidentally forged a powerful alliance between his rival family and the Bruce family. That's all."
Robert's voice was somewhat hoarse, deep and magnetic. Ning Yao had only ever heard such a pleasant male voice from Wen Tingye.
She looked at Robert silently, thinking to herself, "They've gone to such lengths, and this is still 'nothing more'?"
With the truth of everything clear, Ning Yao had no more doubts. Leaning against the car door, she stared intently at Robert. After a long while, she asked, "Mr. Robert, I'm returning to my country the day after tomorrow. Would you like to come with me?"
A fleeting look of surprise crossed Robert's eyes, then he smiled and looked at Ning Yao, asking in a deep voice, "What, you can't bear to part with me and want to take me back to your country to meet your parents?"
Ning Yao looked extremely serious. She stared intently at Robert, her eyes clear, and uttered a sentence with her lips slightly parted.
"Stop pretending, Wen Tingye."
