Chapter 8 Airplane
Chapter 8 Airplane
Taro Kawashima felt offended; how dare this woman defy him!
He yelled angrily, "Get out of the way! A good dog doesn't block the way!"
Chu Deng's eyes turned cold, and she raised her foot to kick him on the head. He was too short, so the top of his head was easier to kick.
But someone stopped them.
Xingchen caught Chu Deng's leg with his arm and pointed to the large screen in the center, "Fighting is prohibited at the Dragon Group base."
Chu Deng reluctantly withdrew her leg and turned to stare at Kawashima Taro.
Kawashima Taro was startled, then a surge of anger rose in his heart, but he refrained from causing trouble due to the rules. Instead, he snorted coldly, shoved Xingchen aside, and went to the mission office.
“You didn’t mention there were also foreigners,” Chu Deng said quietly.
"This game is released online, and it includes not only foreigners but also overseas exploration missions." Xingchen glanced at Chu Deng and went to the mission area as well.
Chu Deng has good eyesight, mainly because there's a large screen in the mission area, like the one in the train hall of her previous life, where all the mission information scrolls around and everyone can see it.
She spotted several overseas missions, including an S-rank mission to explore anomalies in the Neon Sea. There was no limit to the number of participants or their level, and the reward was 10,000 points per person.
Taro Kawashima went to accept this mission.
This reminded Chu Deng of post-apocalyptic Japan. Due to its unique geographical location, during the great disaster, tsunamis and earthquakes took turns ravaging the land, causing countless deaths and injuries. For some reason, the Japanese started with level two zombies and leveled up quickly, eventually leading to their complete extinction. Only the Japanese wandering outside Japan survived, which is why Chu Deng said they were on the verge of extinction.
The game offers a high degree of freedom, and Chu Deng is not someone to be trifled with. This short guy mocked her; in reality, she might have to think twice, but in the game? Ha, Sister Deng is going to teach him a lesson.
Chu Deng immediately accepted the mission, secretly keeping an eye on the short man, planning to kill him once they arrived in Japan and complete the mission, then camp out and eliminate him until he deleted his account.
After thinking it over, Chu Deng put the dwarf out of her mind, browsed the Dragon Group base for a while, and then hurriedly logged off. Luo Xia was urging her to wash up and go to bed.
The next day was Saturday. Chu Deng sent Jin Xiaoyue a message to ask her to go online, but Jin Xiaoyue kept sending crying emojis. She said that because of what happened yesterday, her parents found retired soldiers to give her special training so that she could be physically fit and at least run away if she encountered something like this again.
Chu Deng remained silent for a moment. No matter how much Jin Xiaoyue trained, an ordinary person could never beat someone with superpowers. Thinking this, Chu Deng made up her mind that she had to take some time to try and see if she could activate Jin Xiaoyue's superpowers.
Since superhumans have already appeared in this world, it means that there are conditions for their awakening. In the previous post-apocalyptic world, the official team compiled several sets of physical techniques to enhance the awakening of superhumans.
Chu Deng awakened naturally and didn't pay attention to the methods of awakening later. She first replied to Jin Xiaoyue with an extremely perfunctory "good luck," and then spent the whole morning recalling clues from her past life and exploiting them.
Fortunately, she has a photographic memory and managed to retrieve a complete set of awakening tutorials from a corner of her memory. However, she only had one set and had no recollection of the other sets.
She once met a little girl in the countryside. The girl's parents had died at the hands of zombies, and she was hiding alone in a cellar. During a rescue mission, she used her keen hearing to find the emaciated girl and brought her back to the base. At the time, the base was promoting the Awakening Training Program, and the girl went to study it every day without fail. When Chu Deng visited her, she even gave Chu Deng a demonstration, which gave Chu Deng the opportunity.
Chu Deng still remembers asking the girl why she was so serious back then. Even if she could awaken, it wasn't certain she would.
The girl's eyes shone brightly. "I want to be like Sister Dengdeng, to kill zombies and take revenge, and to save children like me."
Therefore, Chu Deng couldn't understand why some adult superhumans would bully their own kind. Were there not enough zombies? Or not enough strange beasts and plants to kill? They gained power, yet they turned their swords against the weak; their mindset was even worse than that of a child.
Chu Deng, who had just logged into "Star Travel World" and boarded a plane bound for Japan, looked at the scene before him and sighed helplessly.
It doesn't necessarily have to be adults. Today is Saturday, and the time limit for minors to play games has been lifted, resulting in a large number of students appearing in all types of games.
A player, clearly a wind-elemental ability user, used their power to blow up the skirt of a flight attendant who was serving meals on the plane, causing the flight attendant to scream.
In "Star Travel World", all players are superpowered individuals. The flight attendant in front of him is just an intelligent game NPC. To be honest, no real person is harmed, but Chu Deng just finds her annoying and has an urge to kick the wind-type superpowered individual to death.
That's what she thought, and that's what she planned to do.
Unexpectedly, someone beat her to it.
"Aaaaaah!" The wind-type ability user, who was laughing and playing, was about to peek under the flight attendant's skirt when he bumped into a steel plate. He twitched in pain, and a bump instantly swelled up on his head.
The steel plate didn't let him off easily, chasing after the man who was tumbling and crawling in the cabin aisle and knocking on him. Chu Deng could even hear the rhythm of a song.
It seems to be a song by the recently popular singer Yan Mengqi, called something like "Iron Warrior".
She remembered it clearly for two reasons: first, the boys in her class were lamenting why the sweet singer had suddenly changed her style; and second, the melody and lyrics of the song were extremely catchy.
Steel warriors, fearless of hardship.
A steel plate can hold the sky high.
This lyric has become a viral, catchy phrase of the year.
Jin Xiaoyue complained to her in frustration that the lyrics would automatically play in her head every time she closed her eyes at night. Since listening to "Iron Warrior," she had stayed up all night three times.
However, this song is quite fitting for this situation. Chu Deng withdrew her leg, looking at the wind-elemental ability user whose face was covered in mud, tears and snot streaming down his face, shouting "I was wrong, great hero, spare my life!" and thought to himself.
I'll beat you to death, you bastard!
Chu Deng looked up and saw a woman sitting on her other side, separated by an aisle, peeking at the wind-type ability user while muttering incantations in the dialect of the central region.
"I despise this kind of scoundrel. Just you wait, I'll assassinate you as soon as I get off the plane. You're a piece of trash." The woman with long, wavy hair looked away, her red lips curving into a smile. She crossed her legs and slowly took a sip of water.
If one hadn't overheard her words, judging solely from her appearance, she would have been a truly elegant and beautiful woman.
Chu Deng suddenly wanted to make friends.
On the other side, the man who was chased from the nose to the tail of the plane by the steel plate was kicked a lot along the way, and his shouts while being beaten made him even more annoying.
"Can you fucking shut up!" Yang Guizhou, who was really annoyed and just wanted to play the game in peace, clicked his tongue and kicked the steel plate away.
The wind-elemental ability user who had been acting like a hooligan fainted, and the cabin became completely silent.
"A piece of trash." Yang Guizhou snorted disdainfully, sat back down, and closed his eyes to rest.
"Why are you so angry about playing a game? How's the training camp going?" Sang Siqing asked in surprise.
"Don't even mention it, damn it." Yang Guizhou frowned. "I was struck by lightning this morning and used as a generator this afternoon. I'm about to throw up. And we have to live like this for another five months!" He said viciously, his deep, hoarse voice full of gloom, as if a layer of black mist had been shrouded between his eyebrows and eyes.
"Hahaha!" Sang Siqing wasn't afraid of him at all, and laughed loudly upon hearing this. "Oh dear, it's because lightning is difficult to cultivate. It's alright, I specially invited you into this superpowered game, so you can vent your frustrations in the game."
"Hmph." Yang Guizhou didn't say anything; he was quite satisfied with the arrangement.
"Alright, focus on your training. I'm waiting to see you win the national selection competition!" Sang Siqing encouraged him, then lowered her voice to reveal her inside information, "By the way, I heard that this year's national selection competition is planned to be held in a holographic game to reduce damage and casualties. You can use this as a way to get used to it in advance." Sang Siqing nudged Yang Guizhou's shoulder and laughed.
"Can you guarantee that it will perfectly match our ability levels? If you can't guarantee fairness, I doubt it." Tang Mingyun, who had been listening quietly from the side, pushed up his glasses.
"Exactly! The data detected by the machine is only a general range. If I can launch a big fireball, but in the game I can only launch a small fireball, I'll cry my eyes out if I lose because of that." Wang Shuhai leaned over to join the discussion, as if to join in the fun.
"I heard they're researching high-precision instruments, but who knows?" Sang Siqing shrugged and dropped the subject.
“Actually, I’ve done this mission before. I just patrolled the undercover operations in the Neon Sea, captured a few strange beasts on the beach, and that was considered completing the mission. But I feel there are still hidden clues, because the mission has never been marked as complete,” Tang Mingyun said proactively.
"Kill gods if they stand in your way, kill Buddhas if they stand in your way, kill, kill, kill!" Wang Shuhai's words successfully ended Tang Mingyun's conversation.
Sang Siqing ate her dessert, smiling but saying nothing.
"Um, can I ask you something? I think I heard you guys talking about a national selection competition? Is it a new storyline? How do I start this storyline?" The boy sitting behind the four of them, wearing pink cat-ear headphones, suddenly raised his hand and interjected.
"Huh? Any new story content? I'm getting a little tired of exploration missions. By the way, when will this game add rankings and competitive modes? Although you can PvP anytime, I prefer browsing the leaderboards." The twin-tailed girl sitting in front of the four turned to look at them and excitedly rattled off a whole bunch of things.
The four looked at each other in dismay, and Sang Siqing broke out in a cold sweat.
