Traveling to ancient times, with space

Chapter 27 Anyang County

Chapter 27 Anyang County

Once outside the space, Su Yue touched her face and realized that the large bite marks on her face had disappeared, and there was some dirt and grime on her hands.

Su Yue didn't plan to wash it anymore, so this was perfect, and she tied her hair up high again.

Looking at them like this, they really do resemble little refugees fleeing famine.

After traveling for almost half a day in the mule cart, we were finally close to the next county town.

Along the way, Su Yue encountered several carriages and many refugees.

Su Yue quickly arrived outside the county town. The county town seemed to be larger than Ping'an Town, and there were many people outside the town who did not go in.

Su Yue got off the mule cart, led the mule forward, and looked up at the city gate: Anyang County.

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the number of refugees had recently increased, and there were also rumors that the Xiongnu had attacked. In order to prevent too many refugees and Xiongnu from mixing in and causing chaos in the county town, thus disturbing the residents, the authorities had taken measures.

A checkpoint was set up outside the city. Each person had to pay ten coins to enter the city, and a cart or horse-drawn carriage had to pay eight coins.

No wonder so many people are queuing outside and not going in; for a large family like this, it's practically robbery.

Su Yue followed the carriage in front of her, queuing to enter the city, and paid eighteen coins.

After entering the city, Su Yue didn't plan to stay. She just wandered around the city and bought some things for the journey.

There were almost no street vendors left; only a few scattered shops remained open.

Hey! There's another sesame seed cake shop.

"Shopkeeper, how much are your sesame cakes?" Su Yue asked, pulling her mule cart over directly.

"Oh, now they're six coins each. If you buy two, you can just give me ten coins." The vendor continued making his sesame cakes without even looking up.

"How many do you have ready? I'll take them all." Su Yue thought that when it was crowded on the road and it wasn't convenient to eat, she would eat some sesame seed cakes. Anyway, these things looked dry and could be kept for several days.

"Ah! I'll take them all. I have over fifty here. There have been so many refugees lately, and the price of grain has gone up. My sesame cakes have gone up in price too, and nobody's buying them. Are you sure you want them all?" The small vendor was still a little incredulous.

"Okay, I'll take them all. Wrap them up for me and calculate the price."

The vendor happily put down the dough in his hand and began counting how many sesame cakes were in the basket.

"Young sir, here are fifty-seven sesame cakes. Wait a moment, let me calculate the price. Two are ten coins, ten are one hundred coins, and fifty-seven are... are... are..."

The small vendor spent a long time trying to figure it out, but still couldn't come up with a solution.

Su Yue was worried for him.

"Five hundred and thirty-six coins."

"Yes, yes, it's five hundred and thirty-six coins. You can give me five hundred coins. Those few are free for you. If you like them, come back and buy more next time." The vendor happily packed the sesame cakes for Su Yue and put them on his cart.

This was my last day opening the shop, and I thought I wouldn't be able to sell everything, but I didn't expect to meet a big customer.

Su Yue pulled the mule cart to visit the next shop that was open.

There are advantages to not allowing migrants from outside the city to enter for free; at least they won't be robbed like they were in Ping'an Town.

Su Yue looked up at the pharmacy and thought, "Okay, I'll go in and order some. Anyway, it won't spoil if I put it in my spatial storage."

At the pharmacy, the doctor prepared more than a dozen doses of medicine for treating colds.

I bought some cinnamon, bay leaves, dried tangerine peel, cassia bark, licorice root, and dozens of other ingredients separately. These are all great seasonings for stewing meat.

After wandering around for a while, I found there was nothing to see. Even the teahouses and inns, where I could hear the most news, were closed.

It was clear that most of the people who wanted to flee the famine had already left, leaving only some shops, which might be another way out.

They drove the mule cart out of the city gate and headed north along the official road.

There were more refugees outside the city gate. Su Yue, a small child, was particularly conspicuous as she drove a mule without any adults with her.

After walking along the official road for only a short while, Su Yue felt many eyes staring at her. If it weren't for the strange large spoon in her hand, some people probably wouldn't have been able to hold back.

Walking alone on the official road is too conspicuous, even if you are strong. Two hands can't fight against many!

Forget it, let's avoid the crowds!

Su Yue walked for a while and saw a small fork in the road. She bypassed the refugees on the road and took the small path.

It's almost October now, and the weather is still very hot, with no sign of rain at all.

I still know too little about the geography of this country; I must get a map when I reach the next town.

This path is alright, except it's a bit narrow and there's a lot of dry grass along it, but it's still passable.

Some reckless refugees still followed, but Su Yue didn't even glance at them.

If anyone dares to try and take her things, she'll make sure they never leave alive.

While eating her sesame seed cake, Su Yue glanced at the dozen or so burly refugees following behind her and sneered, "Since you want to die, then I'll send you on your way."

Su Yue stopped the mule cart, stood on it, patted her hands lightly with a spoon, and looked at the refugees behind her with a mischievous smile.

As the refugees drew closer, they saw the emaciated child, whose gender was indistinguishable, grinning mischievously at them.

"They're here." Su Yue stopped clapping and beckoned them over with her index finger.

The leader of the refugees reached out to stop the others who were about to rush forward, before he could even speak.

Several refugees behind them shouted, "Brother, go! He's all alone!"

"That's right, brother!"

"It's best to be careful!" the leader cautiously reminded them.

After a brief stalemate, the refugees behind them grew impatient and charged forward with sticks in hand.

Su Yue jumped off the cart and shoved a spoon into the chest of a fleeing refugee.

The person was sent flying, landing on the ground and spitting out a mouthful of blood. Looking down, he saw that his chest was caved in.

The remaining refugees were terrified at the sight, and stopped rushing forward, slowly retreating.

"You two go first, I'll flank from behind. If I don't kill him today and avenge my brother, I swear I won't rest! Charge!"

The two refugees who came up behind her had trembling hands holding sticks, and they approached Su Yue step by step.

Su Yue looked at their terrified expressions and felt a surge of contempt. She pointed at the two men, her eyes filled with provocation.

The two men exchanged a glance, gritted their teeth, raised their sticks, and charged towards Su Yue.

Su Yue easily dodged their attacks, then jumped off the mule cart and kicked one of them to the ground.

Seeing this, the other man panicked even more. Taking advantage of the situation, Su Yue snatched the stick from his hand and hit him on the head with a spoon. The man's head caved in, and he fell to the ground, bleeding from all seven orifices.

"Go, you go! Hurry up, let's all go together! There's food on his cart!" The leader of the refugees pushed the rest of the refugees behind him out, then fled in terror.

Before she had run far, Su Yue was hit on the leg by a stone and fell to the ground, still crawling forward with her hands.

The remaining refugees cautiously gathered around, terrified by the spoon in Su Yue's hand.

Su Yue held an iron spoon, her sharp gaze sweeping over them.

The refugees were so frightened that they retreated repeatedly, then knelt down with a thud and began to beg for mercy.

"Spare us! Please, let us go! He sent us to rob you, please let us go!"

Su Yue had no intention of letting them off the hook; if you want to rob someone, you have to be prepared to be killed in return.

“Fine, I’ll let you go as long as you kill him.” Su Yue pointed at the fleeing man.

The refugees, as if granted a pardon, rushed forward and began to hit and kick them.

"Don't come any closer! Don't believe him! He's lying to you! Go and kill him together..."

Before the person on the ground could finish speaking, he was beaten to death.

Watching them defect so easily, Su Yue couldn't help but sigh at the suffering in the world.

"Can we leave now?" the remaining refugees asked in trembling voices.

"Let's go," Su Yue waved her hand, signaling the others to leave.

As the man turned to run, Su Yue quickly replaced the iron spoon with a curved knife and killed him from behind.

Hmph! She wouldn't leave herself any hidden dangers, in case she softened her heart and let them go.

Are we just going to wait for them to gather more people to take revenge on us?

She's not that stupid. Everyone else wants her dead, so they deserve to die.

He put the knife back into his spatial storage and began looting the corpses of the refugees.

It took a dozen people to pull out three taels of silver. Su Yue spat on the ground and said, "Pah, a bunch of poor bastards, they're nothing."

He kicked the corpse a few more times before clapping his hands, getting into a mule cart, and leaving.
