Chapter 12 Starlight
Chapter 12 Starlight
Joey watched Starlight gather its energy and dared not be careless. He grabbed Starlight's pure white cloak like a chick and burst through the window at top speed, soaring into the sky at an altitude of 10,000 meters.
The starlight in his hand emitted a burst of light strong enough to blind everyone present, and then there was no further movement, which made Joey breathe a sigh of relief:
"Thank goodness, I thought you were going to self-destruct just now!"
Starlight realized her loss of control; the low temperature from almost reaching the stratosphere cleared her head considerably, but she was still furious. She struggled and turned to look at Joey:
"Let me go!"
"it is good."
Since she had already gone this far, Joey had no choice but to comply.
As Joey let go, Starlight began freefall. Seeing Starlight belatedly realizing what was happening and starting to scream, Joey could only helplessly swoop down and catch Starlight in his arms in a princess carry:
"So you can't fly, and then you want me to let go?"
"What's it to you!" Starlight, held in Joey's arms, was both ashamed and angry, but at this moment, ten thousand meters in the air, she couldn't use any of her abilities, and didn't even dare to move. She just wanted to punch Joey in the chest a few times:
"My superpowers all depend on electricity; I can't work anywhere without it."
Upon hearing this, Joey couldn't help but purse his lips:
"What a useless superpower. What if the Kryptonians or Apokolips invade tomorrow and we need you to fight in outer space? Are you going to carry a huge lithium battery into space?"
"You weirdo, you've been reading too many 'Victory' comics!"
Victory Comics is a superhero comic book series owned by Vought International, which accounts for almost 90% of the entire American comic book market.
From a young age, Starlight began doing things that helped others, although at first she also fantasized about how she could cleverly see through the alien invaders' disguises like the Tyrion Lannister in the comics...
Or like Homelander, you could easily obliterate alien spaceships with your heat vision, but reality is reality. In reality, most of the villains you encounter are just petty thieves who rob convenience stores or gas stations.
A sneeze!
In such a high-altitude environment, the dense water vapor made the starlight involuntarily sneeze.
Joey frowned, suddenly remembering his father Jonathan's words about men needing to be gentlemanly. So he pulled his cloak over his shoulder and put it on the woman in his arms, but she clearly didn't appreciate it.
"Are you stupid? I'm superhuman, I'm not afraid of this little bit of cold!"
Even so, Starlight still reached out and wrapped herself tightly in the red cloak, perhaps it would give her some sense of security at such a high altitude.
"Have you calmed down now?"
Joey felt that staying up in the sky with this woman wasn't going to work, and he was eager to get back to Stormgirl Clara to learn magic.
"Promise me that you will control your emotions and not hurt innocent passersby after you go down, and I will send you back."
"I didn't mean to hurt any innocent bystanders!" Starlight, still furious despite being wrapped in her cloak, punched Joey in the chest several more times. "The only person I wanted to hurt was you!"
"But the way you just hurt me clearly also hurt innocent bystanders."
Without making things clear, Joey wouldn't put this ticking time bomb back on the surface: "I really don't understand you superhumans. You all use your killer abilities so carelessly. What are you going to do about it if you cause irreversible damage?"
Xingguang blushed slightly at what was said, feeling a chill run down her spine at the thought of the potential consequences she had just caused. However, she didn't forget to instinctively try to argue her point:
"I'm sorry... but what do you mean by 'you superhumans'? Aren't you a superhuman too?"
"Of course not." Seeing Starlight's remorse, Joey flew directly towards Water Tower.
"I am an alien who landed on Earth more than ten years ago and was raised by my adoptive parents."
Starlight covered her face, completely speechless.
If I remember correctly, what Joey just said was from Homelander's comic book origins a long time ago. However, due to the immigration situation in the last ten years or so, the comic book editorial department has long since rewritten the character design, making him a native American.
Being physically and mentally crushed by a super chuunibyou (middle school syndrome) who reads too many comics, unable to fight back and completely in the wrong when reasoned with, is shameful enough.
Soon after, Joey arrived at the top of Water Tower with Starlight. After setting her down on the rooftop, Joey prepared to rush back to his hotel, Trump Tower, to study magic as soon as possible.
But her cloak was gently tugged from behind by someone—it was Xingguang, who had caught her breath.
"Um... my name is Anne, Anne January. I'm really sorry about what happened earlier, I..."
Joey's face hardened, interrupting Starlight's words. He leaped into the air, looking down at her from above:
"Annie, you shouldn't apologize to me. That kind of attack couldn't hurt me. You should apologize to the people there. If I hadn't taken you away in time, the consequences wouldn't have been something that could be covered up with an apology."
After saying this, Joey flew straight to his residence, leaving Starlight standing on the rooftop of Water Tower shouting:
"Hey! Shouldn't you take me back to my original floor?!"
"Doesn't the Water Tower have electricity?" Only Joey's voice could be heard on the wind.
Starlight's ability to fly exists only in theory. She usually only feels that she can fly, but has never actually tried it, not even on flat ground.
After thinking it over, Xingguang realized that attempting his first flight at such a height was somewhat suicidal. In the end, he had no choice but to use brute force to pry open the rooftop door, find the elevator, and return to his previous floor.
"Ah, I was just wondering if you'd ever come back, Starlight."
Starlight had just returned to the place she had left behind, intending to retrieve her backpack. The backstage area had been evacuated, with only a black man in a suit sitting in the center of the lounge waiting for her.
This Black man exuded an aura of authority without being angry. He slightly gestured, and a masked man in black stealth armor emerged from the shadows behind the starlight, startling her.
This is "Black" from the Super Seven, a top-tier stealth assassin who leaves no trace!
But at this moment, Xuanse showed none of the ruthless killer aura portrayed in the advertisements. Instead, he respectfully followed the man's instructions, bringing a chair from elsewhere and placing it in front of him and Xingguang.
"Please sit down."
The charismatic Black man introduced himself to Starlight:
"I am Stan Edgar, you should have heard of me."

"Is that all?"
At this moment, Joey was lying in the hotel room, flipping through the documents brought by Storm Girl one by one. These documents were still yellowed, and it was clear that the original documents were quite old.
Like the previous materials, these things are indeed substantial, but they are too fragmented. After reading them, it is still impossible to piece together a complete picture of magic.
"Don't rush. I've already contacted his descendants, but the information is fragmented and it will take a long time to organize. I can only scan a portion of it for now."
The sound of running water came from the bathroom next door. As Storm was talking, she pushed the bathroom door open a crack and beckoned to Joey with her finger.
"Have you finished your research? If you have, could you do me a favor—pass me this towel?"
Joey has always been a helpful person:
"Okay, I'm coming!"
