Chapter 468: It's Best to Give Up
Chapter 468: It's Best to Give Up
"Making a scene? Did she give me a chance to have some peace and quiet? Weren't you the Empress Dowager tormenting us these past two days?"
"And this invitation letter... I'm afraid they've gathered quite a few ladies to try and persuade Sisi together?"
The Emperor merely glanced at the invitation and already guessed what the outcome would be. He sighed but did not stop talking.
Even so, you should have a way to deal with it.
"What should we do? Are we just going to make Sisi avoid her?"
The emperor didn't say a word, but casually put the invitation into the brush washer and tossed in a candle.
The sparks, which should have gone out when the envelope was crooked, instead quickly licked at it and burned it completely.
In the end, only a few ashes remained, and the emperor looked at Li Jingyang once again.
"I can guess what the Empress Dowager is trying to persuade you about. How will you decide? After all, what she said is not wrong. For now, I can indeed keep things in check, but what will happen in the future?"
"Do they think they can outmaneuver me?"
Upon hearing this, the Emperor took a deep breath and immediately picked up his brush to review the memorial before him.
"What if you can't defeat them all by yourself?"
“I will not let that happen, nor will I marry anyone else, unless you want to see her body the next day.”
He wouldn't mind doing something to make sure people never dare to send their women to him again.
Sensing the undisguised threat in Li Jingyang's words, the Emperor decided not to continue persuading him, but instead put down his pen and looked straight ahead.
He thought they were looking at him, but when he followed the emperor's gaze, he realized that those eyes were looking at the so-called country and its people.
"In any case, there will be many such matters in the future. If you really don't want to resort to such methods, you should try to be as gentle as possible."
"Thank you for your advice, Father. I will keep this in mind."
After receiving Li Jingyang's response, the Emperor withdrew his gaze and returned to his previous position, lowering his eyes and ceasing all conversation.
Realizing there was nothing more to say, he didn't linger and turned to leave the palace.
"I heard you threatened the Empress Dowager? She is quite old after all, don't always try to frighten her like that."
"She looks so energetic. Would she behave herself without these methods? No, she's not behaving herself right now."
The Emperor didn't say much, but calmly waited for the next sentence, "That's your grandmother," before quietly dealing with the memorials on the table.
It was clearly a reminder that his actions were excessive and could easily cause dissatisfaction among others, ultimately affecting his status as the crown prince.
But Li Jingyang would never lower his head. He snorted and went straight back to Lin Rusi's side.
"What's wrong? You went out early this morning and came back with a long face?"
"I was thinking, why don't we move out of the palace?"
Why did you suddenly have this idea?
She objected, and even longed for it, since the Empress Dowager was always causing trouble, and leaving the palace would allow her to relax a bit.
Seeing that she did not refuse, Li Jingyang had an idea. He raised his hand and patted her thin back, signaling her to go and accompany the child.
Lin Rusi didn't say much, but went straight to another room, and soon a soft laugh came from there.
Hearing the voices inside the room, Li Jingyang turned his gaze away, nodded to the person who was hurrying over, and walked into the study.
But after the two had been talking for a short while, Lin Rusi, who was supposed to be with the child, came in with tea and snacks.
"What's going on? Has something happened again?"
"It doesn't even count as having happened."
Li Jingyang waved to the person, indicating that they should sit in the seat next to him, and then spoke up about what had just happened.
The other two remained silent for a long time after hearing what he said.
"What does the Crown Prince intend to do?"
"What would you like me to do, Madam?"
Lin Rusi knew that the other party already had an idea in mind, so she naturally didn't say anything more. Instead, she stood up and met his deep eyes.
He raised his hand and placed it on the gently beating heart, amidst the puzzled look in his eyes.
"Just do what you want to do, I'll support you."
"Thank you ma'am."
Li Jingyang grasped the hand resting on his chest, his tightly pursed lips relaxed, and without turning his head, he stated his arrangements.
"The Zhuang family began to decline little by little after the Empress Dowager became Empress Dowager."
"How could this be? Shouldn't things be getting better and better?"
Hearing what the other person said, he continued to fidget with Lin Rusi's fingers, not taking the issue to heart.
But this matter had piqued her curiosity, so she immediately withdrew her hand and told Li Jingyang to explain quickly.
He looked at his empty palms and couldn't help but rub them together before continuing what he hadn't finished saying.
"Indeed, they did quite well at the beginning, but the dealers weren't cut out for business, and they were even less suited to be officials. Even with some support, they couldn't climb the ranks."
"Such a thing is possible?"
Keep in mind that with the Empress Dowager in charge, as long as they didn't make any major mistakes, they could almost always climb smoothly to the top.
Lin Rusi looked up, wanting to urge the other person to continue, when she heard a sigh from the side.
"I have heard of this person. He seems to have no interest in his official position and just sits around doing nothing while receiving his salary."
Li Jingyang nodded, acknowledging the other party's statement.
Lin Rusi had never imagined that there were people willing to accept the lowest possible salary, and she opened her mouth to ask for clarification.
Before she could even utter a sound, Li Jingyang grabbed her slender arm tightly and pulled her to his side.
"No matter what, I will never marry another woman; you will be the only one in my family."
"You say the bookmakers have already lost, so what are they relying on to stay afloat now?"
Lin Rusi felt her hands being held tightly. Looking down, she saw that it was Li Jingyang's hands, and guessed that he was a little uneasy, so she could only raise her head.
Without batting an eye, she left a kiss, then quickly looked up at the scenery outside the window.
A soft laugh reached my ears, and when I turned around, I felt a heat on my cheek. The next moment, I heard that deep voice again.
"There are still some shops left by the Empress Dowager, and a few connections, so there won't be any problems for this generation."
"So, the next generation might not have any official positions? No wonder the Empress Dowager..."
Lin Rusi didn't say much after that, but instead quietly expressed her thoughts.
At first, Li Jingyang didn't want his wife to worry about this matter, but after hearing the details, he couldn't help but smile.
"Then let's do as Madam says."
"Yes, Your Majesty, I will go and prepare immediately."
Seeing the two of them almost glued together, the other person turned and ran, fearing that if they stayed even a second longer, they would be reduced to ashes by the Crown Prince.
Three days later.
Zhuang's father had already sensed something was wrong, and after taking stock, he discovered signs of human intervention.
At first, he thought they were old enemies, but when he sent people to inquire, he found out that it was not their own choice, but that they were being instructed by someone.
"How could this happen? I've spent my whole life doing good deeds, and now I'm left with nothing but ruin and death?"
"What's wrong, sir? Why do you look so mournful? Could it be that the shop..."
