Chapter 65 Seeking Help
Chapter 65 Seeking Help
"That concludes today's lesson," the history professor's voice echoed through the classroom once more, marking the end of another class. The students breathed a sigh of relief, a collective sigh of relief signifying that their academic tasks for the week had finally come to an end.
"No homework this week, have fun this weekend!" he announced, then walked out of the classroom, leaving behind a jubilant atmosphere. As the door closed, the students erupted in enthusiastic cheers.
Wow! No homework!
"Finally, I can rest!"
"What a lucky week!"
The atmosphere in the classroom shifted from focused to cheerful. Desks were pushed aside, and the rustling of backpacks signaled the start of the weekend. Frowns were no longer furrowed, and smiles and laughter replaced focus and tension.
"So, who's planning to relax this weekend?" a student suggested with a smile.
“Count me in! I’ve been studying all day, I need to relax,” another student chimed in.
"I heard there's a movie night in the common room on Saturday. Let's go!"
The classroom was filled with excitement as everyone planned their weekend activities and extended invitations to each other. The air was thick with anticipation. A weekend without homework or exams was a welcome relief for every student.
In reality, given that the students at the college are mostly young, they naturally interact and socialize with each other. Moreover, knowing that most students come from affluent family backgrounds, their most likely weekend activity is spending money to party together.
Then I started packing my things. Since it was a weekend without homework and no club meetings, I planned to go on another dungeon adventure to earn some money.
Just as I was about to leave, suddenly, I saw what I had been waiting for.
"Ethan, can I talk to you alone?"
A girl with chestnut hair and blue eyes walks toward our protagonist, who is slowly packing his things.
She looked exhausted, her clothes were slightly disheveled, her hands were covered in calluses, and she had sustained some injuries. Her complexion was pale, with noticeable dark circles under her eyes, and I could faintly smell some stamina-enhancing drugs on her; I could sense the slight side effects of her unbalanced diet.
Overall, the girl showed signs of fatigue.
"Um...do I know you?" As a kind-hearted protagonist, Ethan looked at her with a puzzled and surprised expression. This was quite normal; she wasn't someone Ethan had spoken to before.
“Ah…excuse me…could we find a place to talk privately?” But Emily seemed a little uncomfortable with other people watching.
At this time, Ethan's reputation was not very high. Although his family was very famous, he was still ranked low in the college.
Therefore, apart from Julia and Lucas's teasing glances, no one paid much attention to what Ethan was doing.
"Hmm..." But that didn't mean Ethan wasn't embarrassed. After all, it's easy for a girl to misunderstand when she says something like that to a guy.
“Please, this is important.” But seeing that Emily had even forgotten to introduce herself, Ethan couldn’t refuse her any longer and nodded.
She finally breathed a sigh of relief after receiving the reply, appearing visibly more relaxed. "Thank you."
And so, the two left the classroom, but I saw Lucas and Julia looking at him with mocking eyes.
'It seems his fate is sealed.'
I remember the dialogue in the game, and I knew Ethan would be teased about this for a long time.
'Then I'll have to prepare for that too.'
With this thought in mind, I left the classroom and headed towards my room.
......
When I entered the room, the first thing I did was log into the Hunter Community website using my student ID.
I started browsing the dungeon exploration recruitment information on the bulletin board.
As dungeons continue to appear, the guilds that manage them sometimes face difficulties, or sometimes a dungeon does not belong to any guild but is purchased by individuals or groups to expand their business in the hunter realm.
Therefore, hunters have a community dedicated to finding groups for dungeon exploration. Its system is similar to a black market, ranking hunters based on performance and the money they earn.
But if there's one difference, it's the strict regulations on information management. You need to register using your ID card, and your capabilities and the types of weapons you use will be recorded.
Based on this information, tracking criminals with supernatural abilities becomes much easier. Of course, there are other matters, such as taxes, but transparency is paramount.
In addition, since discovered dungeons are usually overseen by guilds or associations, entering a dungeon alone is extremely difficult.
This is also why I explore dungeons in the black market; I prefer to act alone rather than with a hunter team. After all, there are many who are difficult to control, while I am capable enough to face them alone.
Even though I don't possess overwhelming strength, I do have one thing: agility. Because I can enhance the bullets in my guns, I can deal greater damage, and due to the characteristics of the gun, my rate of attack is also very high.
Thanks to my Shadow ability, I can also move silently, which makes me very flexible when guiding monsters and launching surprise attacks.
But I'm trying to keep these things hidden. Especially my Shadow ability and my firearms skills, because I'm pretty sure Kaya Hartley did see the moving shadows, and if she knew about them, connecting the dots wouldn't be difficult with the gunshots.
And once she connects to these points, she will come to me.
The reason?
I pose a threat to her. Even if I save her daughter, her thought process will be, "If my daughter is the target, can I even save her?"
And according to human nature, when we encounter something incomprehensible or elusive, we often choose to destroy it. After all, that's just one of our reactions.
In this situation, I would become Kaya Hartley's target, which would ultimately put me in danger.
This is the only reason I'm reluctant to explore the dungeon, but with my current archery skills, I should at least be in a credible position.
Overall, after browsing the forums and bulletin boards for a while, I finally saw the notification I was looking for.

I was curious when I saw this notification from there. In the game, players communicate directly with Emily. Therefore, I hadn't checked guild notifications before.
'So you wanted to see a therapist.'
Finding a therapist isn't easy, especially when you're short on money. This is a key mistake most beginners make. Of course, it's also possible they desperately need funds, but either way, it's a fact.
'And this healer is a demon contractor.'
This will become a fairly common pattern in the future. Demons will find the scarcity of healers a critical problem, and they will exploit this by disguising themselves as healers. This will lead to the annihilation of many hunter squads.
This is one of the reasons I wanted to join this dungeon exploration. The healer they hired for this mission was a demon contractor, which almost led to the annihilation of the entire party.
Of course, as players, we're there, and the team can handle that guy. But that's never certain. My mere presence could change things; the butterfly effect might have ensured it.
Although deep down I know these are all excuses.
'I'm going to kill him.'
This is because the demon contractor will leave the dungeon alive and escape. Although Ethan can handle his destruction, this demon contractor is extremely cunning due to his abilities.
'I won't let him escape.'
The second reason is that there is a hidden level in the dungeon.
This is a hidden level I discovered while doing this side quest, and it wasn't a coincidence. Because I've been paying attention to every detail, I noticed that the mana in one spot was different. My character wasn't attracting mana as usual, which was evidence of a mana disturbance.
With this suspicion in mind, I went there and made some random movements to test the waters. As a result, when I used magic in front of the small stone, I was sucked into a spatial portal and entered a hidden level.
'Well, since it's next week, I have plenty of time to prepare.'
After all, the last vacant seat wasn't filled by anyone else, which meant they wouldn't refuse me.
With that thought in mind, I shut down the website and began preparing for another underground city exploration.
