Chapter 17 Identifies Guo Dabao
Chapter 17 Identifies Guo Dabao
It was midday, and although the villagers of Linshui Village rarely ate lunch, the midday sun was strong, so the men who worked would come back to drink some water and rest.
Hearing the commotion, people came out to see what was happening, and soon a large crowd had gathered in front of the Guo family's house.
They watched Lin Chang'er and her group, chattering amongst themselves.
"What happened?"
"It was said that three children from the Guo, Li, and Yu families beat up the children from the Gu family."
"That's not all. Gu Erlang's wife was almost beaten to the point of miscarriage. That's really ruthless. What will happen if someone dies?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the surrounding villagers shook their heads and sighed in unison.
Lin Chang'er heard it too, and that was exactly what she wanted.
The Guo family wanted to stay inside and let the matter drop, but that didn't work. Since they wouldn't open the door, she had her younger children keep making a fuss.
Even if we don't get an explanation, we want the whole village to know how the Guo family raises their children.
Gu Xiaolu was a clever girl. Hearing what the villagers were saying, she took the initiative to step forward and explain, "Uncles, aunts, and uncles, have you seen the bump on my brother's head? It was from Guo Dabao, Li Sanniu, and Yu Ergou."
One villager asked, "Why did they beat your brother?"
Gu Xiaolu blinked her big eyes, tears welling up in her eyes. "I don't know either. My brother was just passing by when they started hitting people, including my second aunt."
"Waaaaah, such a big bag, will it make my little brother stupid? My poor little brother..."
Some villagers couldn't stand it and tried to explain, "What can a two-and-a-half-year-old child do? It must be the kids from the Guo, Li, and Yu families bullying people!"
Then another villager said indignantly, "Last time, my little girl was almost pushed into the stinky ditch by them."
"My little one was the same; his elbow was scraped and scraped after being pushed."
"This is simply outrageous. It's not like we're mad dogs that get bitten every time we pass by. And the women from the Guo, Li, and Yu families don't do anything about it."
"Mind your own business. Which kid in the village younger than them hasn't been bullied? Last time, Old Zhang's grandson came to demand an explanation after they stole his candy. The Guo family even turned around and accused them of coming to freeload, which really angered Old Zhang."
"Tsk tsk tsk, a doting mother spoils her son, and he'll become a menace sooner or later."
While people were still talking, they didn't even realize that their tone had unconsciously become more disgusted with the Guo, Li, and Yu families, and there was even a hint of hope that these three families would suffer misfortune.
Lin Chang'er wasn't surprised. There was no enmity between their families. Without exception, her eldest brother-in-law, second sister-in-law, and Xiaoman were all from the vulnerable group, so naturally, their family wouldn't be the only one to suffer.
Gu Xiaolu's actions still surprised her, but she did a good job.
He cast an approving glance at the little girl who had returned to his side.
The little girl smiled at her with her eyes narrowed.
At that moment, the Guo family's gate was suddenly flung open from the inside.
Guo Dabao's mother stood at the door, her hands gripping the bolt, her face contorted with rage as she shouted at the outside, "What are you yelling about? Did your house collapse or did your house crumble? Or did your wife and husband die and you have nowhere to go? Why are you making a scene at my door in the middle of the day?"
Upon hearing this, most of the villagers looked displeased. The woman from the Guo family had a foul mouth, but since they weren't the victims, they didn't intervene.
Lin Chang'er dismissed it as mere barking and took a step forward while holding Gu Xiaoman. "Our families are all fine, but your Guo family, we've been knocking on the door for so long without a response. We were wondering what had happened to you!"
Guo Dabao's mother was furious, "Who are you cursing?"
Lin Chang'er raised an eyebrow, "You can curse the dead or missing people in our house, but why can't you do that?" That's too much of a double standard.
These words drew laughter from the villagers who were watching; those who could read and write could come up with all sorts of swear words.
Guo Dabao's mother felt humiliated and pointed at Lin Chang'er, "Lin, if you dare to curse again, I'll tear your mouth apart."
Lin Chang'er put Gu Xiaoman on the ground for the twins to look after, then quickly rolled up her sleeves, looking ready to fight.
"What do I have to be afraid of? Even if the King of Heaven himself comes, I am the victim here today. Come on, we'll see who gets torn apart."
Guo Dabao's mother was intimidated by her imposing manner and unconsciously took a step back.
Gu Silang seized the opportunity and said, "Guo Dabao, together with Li Sanniu and Yu Ergou, injured my nephew. So, are you going to do anything about it?"
When Guo Dabao's mother saw that it was a child, she immediately felt it was acceptable and retorted sharply, "Just because you say it was my son who hit him doesn't mean it was my son who hit him! I could say he fell down by himself!"
Gu Silang was furious. "My second aunt saw it with her own eyes. It was Guo Dabao and the others who pushed Xiaoman."
Guo Dabao's mother naturally refused to acknowledge it, saying, "Since that's the case, then let your second sister-in-law come and tell me herself. You widows who have just lost their husbands and young boys who haven't even grown up yet can't make this happen."
Gu Silang choked. His second sister-in-law was mute. How could she speak? Wasn't this bullying?
Seeing his flustered appearance, Guo Dabao's mother said smugly, "I almost forgot, your second sister-in-law is mute. How can a mute speak?"
I think you're just taking advantage of my son's vulnerability and deliberately framing him.
Upon hearing this, the surrounding villagers all wore expressions that were hard to describe, as if to say, "See? No one has ever made the Guo family suffer."
Gu Silang argued forcefully, "You're distorting the truth..."
Lin Chang'er stepped forward to block him, looking directly at Guo Dabao's mother, "Don't worry, I'll settle things with you about my second sister-in-law later."
"Isn't it just about identification? Xiaoman can do that."
The villagers chimed in, "Yeah, yeah, isn't Gu Xiaoman right here? Why don't we just call Guo Dabao and the others out and let him recognize her?"
Guo Dabao's mother was startled and retorted, "He's only two and a half years old, what could he possibly remember?"
Lin Chang'er glanced at her, "You had someone beat you up and now you don't remember who did it? Are you scared?"
"What do I have to be afraid of?"
"Then call them out."
Guo Dabao's mother was naturally unhappy.
The villagers who were watching the commotion joined in the jeering, "If you're not afraid, why are you hiding? Are you trying to raise a coward?"
Guo Dabao's mother was furious, but given the circumstances, she had no choice but to reluctantly call the person out.
As soon as Guo Dabao came out with Li Sanniu and Yu Ergou, he glared fiercely at Gu Xiaoman.
Gu Xiaoman was already afraid of him, and for a moment she was so frightened that she shrank back even more. The little goldfish turned to the side and hugged him, encouraging him, "Xiaoman is a man, isn't he?"
Gu Xiaoman was scared, but when he thought of his aunt, older brother and sister and fourth uncle who were all helping him seek justice, he knew he had to be brave.
The little boy nodded, pointing at Guo Dabao and the others, "They're the ones who cursed at their mothers, threw stones at their mothers, pushed Xiaoman, and stole Xiaoman's duck eggs."
Guo Dabao and his two companions naturally denied it, saying, "Nonsense, when did we rob you?"
Guo Dabao's mother selectively ignored Gu Xiaoman's accusation and chimed in, "Did you understand? Dabao and the others said no. Don't be so desperate for money, acting like a mad dog biting people everywhere."
Lin Chang'er ignored her, her cold gaze sweeping over Guo Dabao, Li Sanniu, and Yu Ergou. She noticed that Yu Ergou's eyes were darting around, and he was intentionally or unintentionally hiding behind Li Sanniu.
