Chapter 36 Who do you think you are?
Chapter 36 Who do you think you are?
"Wan'er!" Yun Ting greeted Wei Wan warmly as soon as he entered the courtyard.
Wei Wan was in the yard with Aunt Lan, planting vegetables. She held a small hoe in her hand, carefully loosening the soil before planting the seeds. Sunlight shone on her, illuminating her gentle yet determined expression.
"Auntie, what kind of dish is this?" Wei Wan asked curiously.
Aunt Lan smiled and replied, "This is a leafy green vegetable. Once it grows bigger, we can stir-fry it and eat it."
Wei Wan nodded and continued planting vegetables diligently. She found this feeling wonderful, as if she had become a part of nature. Although she was the legitimate daughter of the Grand Tutor's mansion, she was particularly enjoying this simple happiness at this moment.
In this quiet little courtyard, time seemed to slow down. Wei Wan and Aunt Lan chatted casually as they planted vegetables, their laughter echoing in the air.
When Yun Ting entered, he was stunned by the scene before him! He seemed to have never seen Wei Wan like this before!
She remembered that in the first few years after she married him, she lived a very meticulous life.
Every morning, she would carefully dress herself up, put on light makeup, wear pretty clothes, and then go to the market to buy groceries.
She selects the freshest ingredients, washes and cuts them carefully when she gets home, and then cooks them meticulously.
Each dish is a work of art she has carefully crafted, with delicious flavors that leave a lasting impression.
After dinner, she would sit with him in the courtyard while he read books and she embroidered.
They would share interesting things that happened during the day and discuss each other's thoughts and feelings.
Sometimes, they would also do some small crafts together, such as carving and making incense.
These seemingly insignificant little things deepened their bond and filled their lives with joy.
When she wasn't busy, she would go for a walk with him, relax in the cool air, or stroll through the market.
She would try her best to cook some delicious food, and the two of them would go boating together.
Sometimes, they would invite friends over to their homes to cook, recite poetry, and spend enjoyable time together.
During that time, he felt that life was full of hope and beauty.
They supported each other and created their own happy life together.
Although life was simple and frugal, it was filled with love and warmth.
Once, Yun Ting was a vibrant and hopeful young man, but as time went by, he gradually became indifferent and ruthless.
Despite his rising status and becoming prime minister, his inner loneliness grew stronger.
He recalled the wonderful times he spent with his family in the past, when they laughed, played, and enjoyed the warmth of family love.
However, everything has changed now. His family is no longer as close as before, but rather filled with awe and distance towards him.
Every day, Yun Ting faces heavy administrative duties and complex interpersonal relationships.
He had to deal with various conspiracies and power struggles, and remain vigilant at all times.
This left him feeling exhausted and increasingly stressed.
Nevertheless, Yun Ting persisted in pursuing his own path.
He knew that as prime minister, he had to be ruthless; if he didn't climb the ranks, he would be trampled to death by others!
But sometimes, he also doubts whether he is really on the right track.
Every night, Yun Ting would sit alone in his study, contemplating the meaning of life.
He misses his simple life in the past and longs to rediscover that innocence and happiness.
However, reality made it impossible for him to easily relinquish the power and responsibilities he held.
In this cold world, Yun Ting gradually lost herself.
He didn't know how to face the future, nor how to find true happiness.
Perhaps, only when he lets go of his burdens and re-examines his life will he find the answer.
But now he doesn't want to give up his ambition, so he especially misses the time he spent with Xiaolian after leaving the mansion.
It seems that only then could he feel that he was not the high and mighty prime minister, but a living, breathing human being.
Wei Wan was originally in a good mood, but when she heard Yun Ting's voice, the smile on her face disappeared instantly, replaced by a serious expression.
"What are you doing here!" Even his voice carried a hint of impatience.
"It's been a long time since I've been here! I came to see you! Wan'er, you're not still angry with me, are you?" Yun Ting tried to take Wei Wan's hand.
But Wei Wan dismissed her with a look of disdain: "You, Grand Chancellor Yun, don't try to flatter yourself! Angry at you? Who do you think you are!"
Listening to her resentful words, Yun Ting felt that she was still just sulking like before, and that he could coax her a little and she would be fine!
However, after bringing Yun Juan back, he felt that Wei Wan had changed, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what had changed!
"It's alright, Prime Minister Yun, please leave! Don't stay in my courtyard! Be careful not to get your clothes dirty!" Wei Wan picked up a basin of water and splashed it at Yun Ting!
Unfortunately, the water ended up splashing right on Yun Ting.
That basin of water wasn't ordinary clean water; it was wastewater from washing vegetables and sweeping, with some eggshells and vegetable leaves floating in it!
"You shrew! You shrew..." Yun Ting's temper flared up immediately!
He was completely taken aback by the bucket of water. He had originally planned to apologize to Wei Wan and coax her a bit!
Let the people witness the deep affection between the couple!
Lately, his father-in-law, the Grand Tutor, has been making things difficult for him in court!
He had tried very hard to please his father-in-law in court, but the other party seemed to be dissatisfied with him.
He always felt that the other party was deliberately targeting him, always finding fault with him and embarrassing him in court.
This left him feeling very confused and distressed, unsure of how to deal with the situation.
After all, he couldn't afford to offend his father-in-law, the Grand Tutor, or his future might be affected.
The Grand Tutor held immense power in the court, and most importantly, he had once served as the Emperor's tutor.
Even the emperor had to address him as "teacher," so his official position was already precarious.
At the same time, he did not want to be constantly suppressed by the other party and lose his dignity and status.
Therefore, he had to find a way to solve this problem and find a way to both protect his own interests and maintain a good relationship with his father-in-law, the Grand Tutor.
So he set his sights on Wei Wan, suspecting that Grand Tutor Wei had overheard the rumors circulating in the streets and alleys, and was therefore secretly making things difficult for him.
But to my surprise, when I came to Wei Wan's place, I was not only smeared but also confronted!
The smell of that dirty water hit me right in the head!
Yun Ting went back to his study and took three showers, but he still felt smelly!
He even ordered his servants to increase the intensity of the incense! Only then did he realize that the smell on his body was gradually fading!
"That shrew, and Wei Wan's unreasonable father too! Humph! A whole family of tyrants!" Yun Ting grew angrier and angrier as he thought about it in his study!
Deep down, I miss my gentle and tender Xiaolian again!
