I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!

Chapter 263: (Not) A Poison

Chapter 263: (Not) A Poison

"I did it!" Azul ran over from the distance with Luan beside him, carrying a bowl made of clay in his hands. "I managed to make the mind-calming medicine!"

It had taken him more than an hour and several failed attempts before he finally succeeded. But the moment Roxanna looked at the medicine, she could tell all of his hard work had paid off. It looked almost exactly like the one described in the recipe.

"Here, make him drink it now!" Azul quickly handed the bowl to Roxanna, clearly eager for Cyrus to take the medicine as soon as possible.

At that moment, Cyrus had accidentally fallen asleep in Roxanna’s arms. He looked peaceful for the first time in a while, and honestly, she didn’t want to wake him up, but she had no choice.

"Cyrus," she called softly while gently patting his cheek. "Can you wake up for a moment? I want to give you something that can calm your mind."

Cyrus slowly opened his eyes, but the second he noticed the medicine in Roxanna’s hand, his expression suddenly changed. Almost on instinct, he shoved the bowl away.

Luckily, Azul reacted quickly and grabbed Roxanna’s wrist before the medicine could spill onto the ground.

"What are you doing?!" Azul shouted angrily. "Do you know how hard I worked to make that medicine?! If you spilled it—"

"Azul."

Luan’s calm voice immediately stopped him.

Azul blinked several times before turning his head toward Roxanna. "I’m sorry, wife" he muttered. Taking a deep breath, he added softly, "I shouldn’t have yelled like that."

He was usually more patient than this, but it seemed like the pressure of making the medicine had almost made him lose his mind when he saw his masterpiece nearly get ruined just like that.

"It’s alright," Roxanna said gently. "Why don’t you wait outside for now?"

She carefully pulled her hand away from Azul’s grip. "Don’t worry. I won’t spill it."

Azul let out a long sigh. "No, it’s fine. I’ll make another one just in case he really throws it away."

Before Roxanna could say anything, he had already gotten up and walked out of the cage, leaving Roxanna alone with Cyrus.

She turned to look at him and realized that Cyrus was trying to make his body look smaller by pressing his back against the cage.

The sight made her chest ache.

At that moment, Roxanna became certain that something had triggered him badly because there was no way he would react like this otherwise.

"Cyrus, it’s okay," she said softly while holding the bowl toward him. "This medicine won’t hurt you. Azul made it to help you feel better."

Instead of moving closer, Cyrus hissed like a cornered animal. Honestly, Roxanna hadn’t expected a bird beastman to hiss like that.

"You’re lying..." he said in a low voice. "It must be poison. You used to give me things like that back then... to test the reactions on me."

His breathing became uneven. "I don’t want to drink poison anymore," he said louder this time. "Take it away from me!"

Roxanna was utterly speechless because the more Cyrus talked about his past, the more she wanted to skin the Sky Tribe alive and pour boiling sugar water over their bodies.

"No, Cyrus, this isn’t poison," Roxanna tried to reassure him. "You’re at home right now, remember? And in your home, no one will ever want to hurt you, remember?"

For a few seconds, he looked completely lost, as if he was trying to put together broken memories inside his head. Even the Comfort Hug Buff Skill didn’t seem strong enough to fully calm the chaos in his mind.

"Home?"

Roxanna nodded slowly. "Yes. You’re home," she whispered. "And here, we would never poison our own family."

Little by little, the fear in Cyrus’s eyes began to fade. "Really?" he asked softly.

Roxanna nodded once more. "Really. I promise."

Even then, Cyrus still looked hesitant. His eyes remained fixed on the bowl, filled with fear and distrust.

Seeing that, Roxanna suddenly lifted the bowl toward herself. Then, while keeping her eyes on him, she took a small sip of the medicine, not too much, just enough to let him know that it truly wasn’t poison.

"See?" she said softly after swallowing it. "It’s harmless."

A small smile appeared on her lips. "If this were poison, I would already be shaking on the floor or dead by now." She tilted her head slightly. "Do you still doubt me?"

Cyrus stared at her silently. His amber eyes stayed fixed on Roxanna’s face, as if he was trying to figure out whether she was lying or not. His fingers trembled slightly against the cage floor, and for a moment, nobody spoke.

Then, very slowly, his gaze shifted toward the bowl again.

Roxanna didn’t rush him. She simply stayed where she was, patiently holding the medicine while giving him enough space to breathe.

"It’s okay," she whispered gently. "You don’t have to force yourself. I’ll stay here with you."

Cyrus lowered his head. His long red hair fell over his face, hiding his expression.

"You really drank it," he murmured, almost sounding confused.

Roxanna nodded. "Of course."

Another long silence filled the cage and then, after what felt like forever, Cyrus slowly moved closer.

It was only a small movement, barely noticeable, but Roxanna immediately saw it. He still looked nervous, like a wounded animal cautiously approaching someone for the first time.

"You won’t leave?" he asked softly.

The question made Roxanna’s chest ache. She shook her head without hesitation. "I won’t.

Cyrus stared at her for a few more seconds before finally reaching toward the bowl with slightly trembling hands. But even then, he still hesitated right before touching it.

Roxanna could see the fear in his eyes. Fear built from years of pain, betrayal, and cruelty.

So instead of urging him again, she gently placed her free hand over his cold fingers.

"It’s alright," she whispered. "Nobody here will force you to suffer anymore."
