Chapter 279 Collection 7
Chapter 279 Collection 7
The next day, early morning.
Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo picked up their packed backpacks, said goodbye to Wang Hao and the others, and headed down the mountain.
Pudding watched its two owners' backs and wanted to rush up and follow them, but Liangzi squatted down and hugged it tightly to stop it.
Liangzi gently stroked Pudding's fur and whispered, "Pudding, be good. The captain and the others will be back in a couple of days."
Woohoo~
Pudding seemed to understand Liangzi's words and stopped struggling violently, but its round eyes were still fixed on the direction where Ye Jingmo and Jiang Li left, and it made a sad whimper.
The path down the mountain was overgrown with weeds because no one had been walking on it. Ye Jingmo used a sickle to clear away the weeds, and the two walked slowly, stopping occasionally, until they reached the spot where the car was parked.
Jiang Li looked at the green car hidden by branches and weeds, and her lips twitched. If she didn't know the car was parked here, she would have thought it was a small hill covered with plants.
After clearing the weeds off the car, Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo got in and drove towards the crater.
There was no one else in the car besides Mo Ge and herself, and Jiang Li looked very relaxed.
She first took out bread and milk from her spatial storage. After eating the bread and milk to fill her stomach, she tore open the packaging of a bread and fed it to Ye Jingmo.
Ye Jingmo stared at the road ahead, letting Jiang Li stuff the bread into his mouth.
After he finished his bread, he put another straw in his mouth and lowered his head slightly to drink the milk.
This section of the road was a mountain path, and the walk was a bit bumpy, which made Jiang Li, who had just finished eating, feel sleepy.
While driving, Ye Jingmo glanced at Jiang Li out of the corner of his eye. Jiang Li was leaning against the glass, yawning, and her eyes were glistening with sleepiness. A helpless smile appeared on Ye Jingmo's lips.
"If you're sleepy, lie down for a bit."
Jiang Li shook her head, finding that her drowsiness hadn't subsided at all. Knowing that forcing herself to stay awake wasn't a good thing, she said to Ye Jingmo:
"Brother Mo, I'll lie down for a while, and then I'll drive."
She adjusted her seat to a comfortable angle, lay down flat, and squinted her eyes.
Jiang Li originally thought she wouldn't fall asleep, but would just take a nap to rest her energy. However, she somehow slowly fell asleep while being rocked.
Noticing that Jiang Li's breathing had become steady, Ye Jingmo turned up the air conditioning in the car.
When Jiang Li woke up, more than half of the journey had already passed.
Jiang Li pouted and looked at Ye Jingmo with dissatisfaction, saying coquettishly, "Brother Mo, why didn't you wake me up?"
"You're sleeping so soundly, bubbles are even coming out of your nose, how could I bear to wake you up?"
Upon hearing Ye Jingmo's words, Jiang Li covered her face, her eyes filled with disbelief. Could she really be sleeping so soundly?
Ye Jingmo saw the blush on Jiang Li's face through the gap she was covering, and wisely changed the subject instead of continuing the conversation.
Otherwise, if he angers Jiang Li, he'll still have to coax him.
"We're almost at the crater. Check if there's anything else we need to bring in the car, so we don't have to pack later."
Jiang Li lowered her hand from her face and naturally sat back to look at the sickle and some bullets on the ground.
"Just put all these things in the space, there's nothing else."
Jiang Li insisted on switching places with Ye Jingmo, saying she would drive so Ye Jingmo could rest for a while. If they went to the crater to look for sulfur stones, there would be no way for him to rest.
Ye Jingmo had no choice but to lie down in the passenger seat, close his eyes, and try to recover his energy as much as possible.
After driving for about two more hours, Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo finally arrived at the crater.
Twin Star Volcanoes used to be a well-known tourist attraction with a planned parking lot, but after the natural disaster, no one comes here anymore, and the parking lot has become deserted.
After all, apart from the volcano, there are no other large shopping malls here, and the city is far away. It's not as convenient to find supplies as it is in the city, so no one would spend a lot of time and gas to come here.
Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo went around in circles before finally finding the parking lot hidden in the weeds.
Weeds had grown on the ground of the parking lot, and there were several dilapidated cars inside, covered in dust, indicating that they had been sitting idle for a long time.
The two parked their car in an inconspicuous corner and followed the signs from the parking lot to the main entrance of the crater.
The crater hasn't erupted in a long time, and the mountain is covered with green vegetation, although it's sparser compared to the original forest.
A stone staircase leads up from the main entrance, with iron chains fastened on both sides. The chains are covered with dark brown rust, as if they might break at any moment.
Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo grabbed the iron chain beside them and climbed up the stone steps of the crater. The terrain here was steep, and the stone steps had been covered with a layer of dark green moss because they had not been maintained for a long time.
Jiang Li felt as if she were stepping on a slippery, soft mud pit, with no support and extremely slippery. She could easily fall off the stone steps if she wasn't careful.
Jiang Li carefully stepped on each stone step, gripping the rusty iron chain tightly in her hand. She was going crazy inside; this was the most difficult stretch of road she had ever walked.
It took the two of them almost an hour to climb the stone stairs and reach a wide square.
Jiang Li was bent over, panting heavily, her chest heaving violently. Ye Jingmo patted her back to help her catch her breath and took a water bottle from his backpack, handing it to her lips.
Jiang Li took a couple of sips of water from Ye Jingmo's hand, rested for a while, and then had the mood to look at her surroundings.
The plaza is the last place tourists can reach, but to obtain sulfur, they need to go closer to the crater.
The square was uneven, with plant roots pushing up the ground. Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo walked around the square separately, looking for stone steps to go up.
Jiang Li used a sickle to cut away the plants blocking the stone steps, revealing the entire stone steps.
There was a sign that had fallen off on the stone steps. Jiang Li used a sickle to flip it over and saw that it read "No Entry for Tourists".
A fence has been erected in front of the stone steps and locked with iron chains to prevent tourists from going up.
"Brother Mo, the stone steps are on this side."
Jiang Li spotted the stone steps leading upwards, waved to Ye Jingmo on the other side, and shouted excitedly.
Ye Jingmo walked over quickly, used the fence as leverage, and leaped over onto the stone steps.
Jiang Li braced herself against the fence with her hands and stepped on a section of the fence. With the same nimble movements, she flipped down the stone steps and landed steadily on the ground.
This section of stone steps is very narrow, only wide enough for one person to pass through, and there are no iron chains to hold onto on either side.
Jiang Li had no choice but to hold hands with Ye Jingmo, who was walking ahead, and carefully move forward.
"Hey, Brother Mo, is that a pond over there?"
Jiang Li looked up and saw the shimmering water. She was puzzled; she had never heard of a pond on a volcano crater.
"Brother Mo, how about we rest there for a while, have lunch, and then continue up the mountain?"
Jiang Li felt she needed to replenish her energy now, as the little food she ate for breakfast had been mostly digested by the time she climbed up.
Ye Jingmo nodded in agreement. Having a pond nearby would be more convenient, so the two walked towards the pond.
When they got closer to the pond, Jiang Li realized that calling it a pond was not entirely accurate.
It is only about one meter deep and about two meters wide, and the water is crystal clear.
Jiang Li reached out and touched the water, only to find it was warm. Her eyes lit up; it was a hot spring.
She looked down into the water but couldn't find the source of the current.
"Brother Mo, this is a hot spring pool! Nature is truly amazing. I couldn't even see the source of the water."
Jiang Li said happily to Ye Jingmo beside her, while gently patting the water's surface, stirring up faint splashes.
"It must have been water that gushed out from the cracks in the rocks, which accumulated over the years to form this hot spring pool."
Ye Jingmo also reached out and touched the water. The warm water brought him a sense of comfort. He scooped up some water and smelled it. There was a faint smell of sulfur.
This indicates that they are not far from a place where they can obtain sulfur.
Unfortunately, it was a hot spring pool, so Jiang Li's idea of catching a couple of fish from it for a meal was ruined.
But the thought of soaking in a hot spring after digging up the sulfur stones to relax and wash away the dirt made Jiang Li just as happy.
She hadn't taken a bath since leaving the base. Now that she'd found a hot spring, she could finally enjoy a proper soak.
Jiang Li scooped water from the hot spring pool, washed her hands, and then took out two bento boxes from her spatial storage.
These dishes were prepared long ago and placed in my space. I don't have to worry about them spoiling; I can just take them out whenever I want to eat them.
As soon as Jiang Li opened her lunchbox, a delicious aroma wafted out. Her lunchbox contained sweet and sour pork ribs, hot and sour shredded potatoes, and scrambled eggs with tomatoes.
Jiang Li's gaze then shifted to Ye Jingmo's lunchbox, which contained braised beef, stir-fried eggplant, potatoes, and green peppers with vermicelli and cabbage.
She also wanted to try the taste of Ye Jingmo's lunchbox, so she used her chopsticks to take two pieces of braised beef and some stir-fried potatoes, eggplant, and green peppers from Ye Jingmo's lunchbox, and then took a few pieces of sweet and sour pork ribs and a few chopsticks of stir-fried shredded potatoes from her own lunchbox and put them into Ye Jingmo's box.
Ye Jingmo's lips curved into a helpless smile as he used his chopsticks to put some more food into Jiang Li's bowl.
Jiang Li quickly moved the lunchbox away. "Brother Mo, I was just taking a bite to taste. If you give it all to me, what will you do if you don't have enough to eat?"
"It's alright. With you here, how could I possibly go hungry?"
Ye Jingmo's deep male voice was soothing and tingling, and his doting gaze swept over Jiang Li's flustered appearance.
"That won't do either. You eat quickly, we still need to go find sulfur."
Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo finished the food in the lunchbox in no time and then continued walking up the mountain.
They hadn't gone far when they discovered a cave. There were no plants growing outside the cave, only rocks.
"Brother Mo, shall we go in and take a look?"
Jiang Li stood outside the cave, her face filled with hesitation, wondering what might be inside.
Ye Jingmo shone his light into the cave and found no danger.
"Let's go in and take a look, but be on high alert."
The two walked into the cave. The surrounding walls were all dark rocks, and the light shining on them seemed to give off a faint yellow glow.
There was a pungent smell inside the cave. Jiang Li took out protective masks from her spatial storage, one for her and one for Ye Jingmo.
Jiang Li poked at the rock on the wall with a sickle and found that the outermost layer of dark stone could be rubbed off, revealing a bright yellow solid inside.
Jiang Li looked on excitedly, put on gloves and scraped the bright yellow solid. Could this be the sulfur stone they were looking for? It was bright yellow all over and had a pungent smell.
Jiang Li, still not entirely reassured, took off her protective mask and sniffed the water, confirming that the sulfur smell was coming from the stones.
Excitedly, she touched this and that, calling out to Ye Jingmo in front of her, "Brother Mo, do you think these are sulfur stones?"
It's truly a case of "searching high and low without finding it, only to have it come to you effortlessly."
They found sulfur stones so easily. Jiang Li was so happy that she even showed her teeth. With such a large area, were they worried about not having enough snake repellent in the deep ditch?
Ye Jingmo came over to check and confirmed that the bright yellow stone on the rock wall was sulfur stone. He asked Jiang Li to take out a hoe and hammer from his spatial storage and prepare to start chiseling.
Ye Jingmo took the hammer and smashed it against the dark stone wall, making muffled "thump thump thump" sounds. Dark stones fell like hailstones, revealing the bright yellow sulfur stones they covered.
Jiang Li used a hoe to knock the hole Ye Jingmo had chiseled open, and a large piece of sulfur stone fell down, along with some fine sulfur stone powder.
However, as she exerted force, she also felt a noticeable rebound force in her wrist, which made Jiang Li feel a little numb in her hand. However, the numbness only lasted for a while and quickly disappeared.
Jiang Li and Ye Jingmo took turns working together. When the ground was covered with a pile of sulfur, Jiang Li would stop what she was doing and put it into her spatial storage to avoid taking up space.
The cave was filled with occasional clanging and clattering sounds, like rhythmic music.
Jiang Li shook off the yellow sulfur powder from her body, feeling sticky and uncomfortable all over. Sweat soaked her clothes, and strands of hair from her temples stuck to her face.
After exhausting all her strength, Jiang Li put down the hoe, found a clean corner, sat down, and prepared to rest for a while.
Ye Jingmo was still tapping on the sulfur stones on the stone wall. Sweat soaked his clothes, revealing the strong muscles beneath his thin skin, and he exuded the charm of male hormones.
Jiang Li covered her face and chuckled as she looked at Ye Jingmo, admiring her own good judgment in choosing a husband.
It's said that rabbits don't eat the grass near their burrows, but the grass there is growing so lushly that not eating it would be a waste.
"What laughing?"
The sudden male voice startled Jiang Li, who jumped up from the ground and scratched her head awkwardly.
Ye Jingmo stared at Jiang Li and reached out to poke her exposed forehead.
