Chapter 278 A Strange Discussion
Chapter 278 A Strange Discussion
Just as he was feeling down, Yan Zuozuo had already found out that a new family had indeed moved in a week ago, and they looked exactly like Yi Fanxi, just as she had described. So, Yi Fanxi really lives here?
She hesitated whether to go up, when Chi Moqing came over and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Yan Zuozuo glanced at him, then pulled him forward. Based on the location she had just found out, she rushed upstairs, treating it as a colleague's visit. In any case, she felt that this Yi Fanxi was very strange.
Because it's an old residential area, there's no property management, and not even an elevator. As soon as you enter the building, you see piles of garbage everywhere, and there's a musty smell. The walls on both sides are also peeling, revealing patches of moss.
Yan Zuozuo finally found the corresponding door number and knocked a few times.
"Who is it?" An old voice came from the room. Yan Zuozuo recognized the voice; it was Qin Yun's father, Yi Fanxi's adoptive father, and the old man who used to sit with her at the coffee shop.
"Uncle, do you remember me? I'm Zuo Zuo." Speaking of which, Yan Zuo Zuo felt a little embarrassed. Qin Yun's father, perhaps due to the hardships of recent years, looked very old, and she had always thought he was an old man, calling him that for a long time. It wasn't until she saw Qin Yun that she realized he was only in his fifties, and calling him "old man" was indeed inappropriate.
Qin Ming recognized Yan Zuozuo's voice while recording the video. After hesitating for a moment, he opened the door.
Yan Zuozuo greeted him politely, and Qin Minglu let them in. "Zuozuo, how did you know we were here? Did Fanxi tell you?"
Yan Zuozuo smiled and said, "I'm now Yi Fanxi's colleague. I came up to say hello when I saw him come in."
"You're colleagues with Fanxi... So you're colleagues with Xiaoyun too?" A glint flashed in Qin Minglu's eyes. He coughed twice, looking very weak.
Yan Zuozuo quickly helped him sit down: "Yes, Qin Yun and I are colleagues, and she is my boss."
Qin Minglu's smile deepened on his thin face: "Is that so? Then could you tell me about Xiaoyun? Is she doing well at work? Has she been bullied? Does her boss like her?"
It was clear that Qin Minglu cared a lot about Qin Yun. Yan Zuozuo glanced at Chi Moqing and saw him frown unhappily. She gave him a look, signaling him not to say anything out of line.
"It's all good. Qin Yun is doing well. He has a good job, his boss values him, and he hasn't been bullied."
"That's good, that's good. Has she gained or lost weight recently? Has she been eating properly? Does she have a boyfriend yet?" Qin Minglu's questions came one after another, sometimes leaving Yan Zuozuo speechless.
Just then, Yi Fanxi turned off the kitchen exhaust fan, brought out the stir-fried dishes, and was about to call Qin Minglu to eat when she saw Yan Zuozuo and Chi Moqing there, and couldn't help but be stunned.
Yan Zuozuo stood up: "This is Yi Fanxi, my new assistant, and this is my husband, Chi Moqing, whom you have met before."
Yi Fanxi nodded with an indifferent expression and didn't say anything. He told Qin Minglu to eat, and then said, "Dad, you eat first. This is my boss. He wants to talk to me about something. Let's go outside."
"Alright, alright, go ahead, don't worry about this old man." Qin Minglu sat at the dining table, looking at Yan Zuozuo with some reluctance. "Come over often, I still have a lot of things I want to ask you."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, "The hearts of parents are all the same."
Before leaving, she glanced around their rented old house. It was clean, but too clean. Besides tables, chairs, and some basic necessities, there was practically nothing else; it was so empty that even walking echoed. She was dumbfounded. With Yi Fanxi's income, how could they possibly live like this? And…
Yan Zuozuo had noticed Qin Minglu's pale and thin appearance and poor spirits a long time ago. Could he be sick?
Yi Fanxi led them to a coffee shop not far away, his expression somewhat displeased. "I wonder what brings you two to my home?"
The waiter placed three cups of coffee in front of them and then left. Just as Yan Zuozuo was about to speak, Chi Moqing's phone rang; it was his assistant calling.
He frowned slightly, picked up his phone and walked outside, only answering the call after leaving the coffee shop.
In the coffee shop, Yan Zuozuo took a sip of coffee and was momentarily at a loss for words. After a while, she remembered Yi Fanxi's question and quickly said, "I just saw you turn into the alley, and I thought it was quite a coincidence, so I went over to say hello."
Yi Fanxi glanced at her but didn't say anything.
Yan Zuozuo felt quite awkward and couldn't find a topic to talk about for a moment. Suddenly, she remembered Qin Minglu's appearance and couldn't help but ask with concern, "I think Uncle Qin doesn't look well. Is he sick?"
Yi Fanxi paused in his stirring of the cup, a dark glint flashing in his eyes, but his expression remained indifferent. "I'm not feeling well."
"You're saving money to pay for Uncle Qin's medical treatment?" Aside from that reason, she really couldn't understand why Yi Fanxi would live in a place like that.
Yi Fanxi lowered his eyes, the light in them shifting unpredictably, and finally nodded, saying, "Mm."
"But there's something I don't understand. If that's the case, any one of your designs would be quite expensive. Why don't you sell your work instead of staying at a small company like Fan Hua Design as a junior assistant?"
Yi Fanxi stopped what he was doing and remained silent. Yan Zuozuo could tell that things weren't as simple as they seemed; there was definitely something strange about Yi Fanxi.
Just then, Chi Moqing walked in. Yi Fanxi looked up at him with an unusual expression.
Chi Moqing leaned closer to Yan Zuozuo and whispered, "Wife, I have to go back to the company for a bit. I'll call you later."
Yan Zuozuo nodded: "You should go back; official business is important."
Chi Moqing was somewhat unwilling, but he had to deal with the matter and leave. His assistant had just called to say that Meng's mother was waiting for him at the company and would make a scene if he didn't see her within an hour.
Chi Moqing felt a headache coming on. This aunt was strong-willed and shrewish. If she really made a scene, he wouldn't mind, but he was afraid it would implicate Yan Zuozuo. He couldn't help but sigh. Before getting into the car, he called his mother and briefly explained the situation, so that if he went too far in the future, he would have a reason to explain to his mother.
In the coffee shop, Yi Fanxi looked at Chi Moqing's back and said, "Your husband is clearly an outstanding person. Miss Yan has excellent taste."
Yan Zuozuo smiled faintly, put down her coffee cup, and said, "You haven't answered my question yet."
Yi Fanxi was taken aback, then looked up at her. "Miss Yan, there are some things that are better left unsaid. The more you know, the more dangerous it becomes."
Yan Zuozuo raised an eyebrow. It seemed Yi Fanxi was indeed someone of great importance. She paused, then suddenly had a bold idea, "Is the danger you're referring to related to Master J?"
The fact that he knows J-Master and Tong Shili shows that there are many connections between them.
"It seems President Chi mentioned J to you. You should be even more aware of the stakes involved. This is not something a woman like you can interfere with. I advise you to know when to stop."
Yan Zuozuo stared intently at him: "If I stop now, will Master J let my husband go?"
Unexpectedly, Yan Zuozuo asked so directly, and a dark and ambiguous emotion flashed across Yi Fanxi's face. "I don't know."
“Since asking or not asking won’t change the outcome, I’d rather know more. If anything happens to my husband, I’ll give my life to protect him.” She spoke with certainty, her eyes fixed on Yi Fanxi. “I don’t know your relationship with Master J, nor do I know why you came to Fan Hua Design, but if you harm my husband in the slightest, I don’t mind dying with you!”
Yi Fanxi tightened his grip on the cup, pursed his lips, and after a long while said, "I envy the relationship between the two of you, but I still maintain that I know nothing. For Miss Yan, knowing when to stop is the wisest choice."
Yan Zuozuo's lips curled up. The more Yi Fanxi said this, the deeper his bond with Master J became. It seemed that Yi Fanxi was very important if he wanted to help Chi Moqing solve Master J's problem.
"Thank you for reminding me, but there's something I'm sure of now. Assistant Yi's coming to my side is probably also related to this Mr. J." As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Yi Fanxi's expression change drastically. She smiled, "Also, I want to ask you one last question: Is Qin Yun involved in this matter?"
Yi Fanxi hadn't expected Yan Zuozuo to guess his purpose. It seemed this woman wasn't just some naive little woman who would hide behind a man. Interesting.
He shook his head: "Qin Yun has nothing to do with this matter. If you really want to help your husband, you can keep an eye on Tong Shili. Perhaps Miss Yan will gain a lot."
Yan Zuozuo smiled but remained silent; she had already achieved her purpose for coming today. She raised her coffee cup, gesturing for a toast with Yi Fanxi. Yi Fanxi took a small sip, his eyes glancing at the dilapidated residential building not far away, something seeming to flash in his eyes.
In the CEO's office, the assistant placed two cups of coffee in front of Chi Moqing and Meng's mother respectively, then bent down and left. Chi Moqing sat on the sofa, looking at Meng's mother who had an angry expression, and asked, "Auntie, what did you want to see me about?"
"I'll just ask you one question: are you going to let your cousin go or not?" Mother Meng asked abruptly.
Chi Moqing smiled faintly: "I thought my mother had already spoken to my aunt. Please rest assured about my cousin's matter. I will naturally not pursue this matter."
Meng's mother was taken aback, and opened her mouth: "But when you were at home..."
Chi Moqing took a sip of coffee and said, "My wife is at home, and my aunt came directly to my door. Zuo Zuo is the one I'll spend my life with. No matter what, I have to protect her in front of others because she is my wife!"
These words, while seemingly giving face to Meng's mother, were actually a warning. Meng's mother's smile was somewhat unnatural. "Auntie was just worried. If she hadn't been so forceful with me, I wouldn't have said those things. Alright, alright, with your assurance, I'm relieved. Tell Zuo Zuo that it was all Auntie's fault. I won't bother you any longer, I'll be going now."
As she spoke, Meng's mother got up to leave, but Chi Moqing stopped her and said, "Aunt should know my temper very well. I won't offend others unless they offend me, but if they do, I will repay them tenfold! So, I forgive my cousin this time, but that doesn't mean I will do it again next time."
Hearing this, Meng's mother felt a pang of guilt: "I know, I know. I will definitely criticize and educate Xinyu when I get home. Don't worry."
"Then I won't see Auntie off. Take care."
Mother Meng quickly nodded and left Chi Moqing's office, but as soon as she stepped out, the smile on her face froze, and a hint of resentment flashed in her eyes. If the Meng family wasn't now inferior to the Chi family, would she need to be so humble? Now even a junior dared to warn her, which was simply too disrespectful! Since they were going to tear off the mask of civility, then don't blame her for being impolite!
